Yo ho,
Looking to buy a new screen, narrowed it down to a few competitors:
BenQ GW2765HT
Acer H277HU - Gorgeous, but expensive as hell.
Asus MX27AQ - Heard it has panel lottery issues.
Dell U2715H - Also very pricey.
Samsung S27D850T

These are all 27" 1440p screens. 1080p screens are £200~ rather than £400.

Something I'm curious over, is performance hit. I have a 144Hz 1080p main screen for gaming, and wanted an IPS for watching videos/streams and other work on the side. I have a GTX 780 (3GB) which runs fine in games, but if I add a 1440p screen on the side, just streaming video or something while playing, am I going to lose a load of frames? In games like TF2 it's fine, it'll always max, but more intensive things like World of Tanks (at max doesn't reach 144fps on 1 screen) will it really hit my frames, and warrant the huge price tag?

1080p is chill, but 1440p seems like something fancy I've not explored yet.
Also, if you own any of these monitors and can share experience, please do.
Alternatively, I could go for 1440p TN instead of IPS, but I'd wager IPS > 1440p TN.

I can answer your first question only. I have a dual monitor setup with two 1080p displays. My system drops about 1-2 FPS average with both connected and me gaming on only one, as opposed to me disabling the second display.

I have an older GTX580, so I bet your 780 will do about the same or even better.

If I were in your shoes I would not hesitate to get the 1440p for the nice visuals.

2k monitors are great. My main screen is 2k, and on the rare occasions when I turn on my 2nd, 1080p, screen, there's no noticeable performance drop. IPS is also great, and the extra resolution comes in handy when doing work (I do programming on it, and being able to have 3 functional windows on the screen is great).
