Question Secondary HDD disappears when installing games or downloading large files, reappears after sleep or restart

Hello, I have two storage drives in my laptop. Main disk is KINGSTON SA400S37240G SSD and the other disk is Hitachi HTS547550A9E384 HDD. Hitachi disk is inserted in DVD rack via caddy. I have reinstalled Windows 10 and the drivers (including Intel RST) in main disk a day ago.

The problem is that whenever I download large files or try to install a game in secondary disk, that disk disappears. Intel Rapid Storage Technology removes the disk for some reason. The disk reappears after restarting my PC or waking it up. I have checked the health of both drives and they are healthy. I am not sure what's going on here.

So, that means you have the insight necessary to interpret all possible parameters of S.M.A.R.T. data of the hdd? I'd suggest you post it in the forum anyway, just in case other may either find something or can actual have a ground to tell you the hdd is in fact in good condition.

Only after that, it is reasonable to ask for different tests in order to locate a potential fault.

The UltraDMA CRC Error Count is counting 9076.

According to another forum (link), it says:

Basically CRC errors are caused by bad sectors or because the drive is not communicating with the computer. CRC tests the data pattern that's on the disk and looks for "illegal" patterns, meaning that the data has been corrupted. There's several reasons this could happen and those include both physical errors (bad sectors) and logical errors (like a power outage that scrambled things).

Therefore, check that both data and power cables are properly connected, if that doesn't help then try to replace the cables, if still doesn't help then move to another sata port.

The disk reappears after restarting my PC or waking it up. I have checked the health of both drives and they are healthy. I am not sure what's going on here.

Issue is almost certainly caused by the fact you are using a DVD bay adapter with that drive. Those adapters can act up at times since the laptop is not expecting a hard drive device there. Try using a different model caddy there or read through the support for that caddy you have to see if there is anything they have about a similar issue.
