I just got a new SSD and I am using that as my main OS drive.

I formatted my old HDD and now use it as storage, the annoying thing is that the HDD light is always flickering away, more so than before when it was the drive that i used!

I have turned indexing off and there is literally only a couple of gigs of things on it.

Is there any way to stop it?

Obviously it is not showing in the resource monitor becasue the OS is on my SSD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hey there again, bremdog!

How about physically reseating the HDD? I'd recommend you to give this a try and also try booting up without the HDD plugged. If the LED is still active, there's something wrong with it, however, your HDD should be fine. Either way, always do backups of your data stored somewhere else outside of the system. This is the best way to protect yourself from data loss.

Running another infection scan might also be a good idea, just in case... 😀 OCD, right?!

Hey there, bremdog!

I'd recommend you to check and see if there are any antivirus scans that are causing the secondary HDD to be so active. Another thing you should do is boot the PC with your HDD unplugged and check if the light is still flashing, it could be something in the connection to the LED.
It could be something wrong with the HDD itself, so I'd recommend you to backup your data if there's anything on it at the moment and run the HDD manufacturer's diagnostic tool to check up on the health and SMART status. In case you can't find this utility on their website, you can refer to this thread from the community for some third-party testing tool suggestions: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

Keep me posted & Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply.

I have ran the smart diagnostic after i formatted to make sure all was well. Also my av does have real time protection on so maybe that is what it is.

It is not constant, I just find it strange that it there is activity when I am not accessing it at all.

Actually I just turned real time protection off and same thing.

Its a mild flickering every few seconds or so.

Everything is running perfect, I think it might just be my OCD but I though I would see if there was any reasonable solution lol
