secondary HDD not showing within WIN 8.1 pro

Hello all.
My new PC finally arrived. I installed a clean copy of win 8.1 pro and even though my primary ssd (used for OS) and my secondary HDD showed up during the "choose a drive to install win" process, after completion, my sec. hdd doesn't show up within the file explorer. I also checked BIOS and it's all there.
Is it possible that it should be formatted first in order for win to recognize it as a device?...just a thought...

Disconnect your HDD before you install OS on your SSD.

Once you are all set with your OS installation, connect the HDD.

You will be happy for sure.

Goto disk management, initialize the disk, create a partition and format that and here we go: it will show in explorer.

Are you suggesting that I should format my ssd and reinstall windows again while I have the sec. drive disconnected? By the way that's the first time I've heard something like that. If that's the case, then it's a bit silly in my opinion. Microsoft should see this coming.
