Secondhand laptop bought

My husband bought a used laptop from a guy who came into his repairshop. He gave him the money, and not thinking, never asked for the password. I have tried password reset but dont have the correct disk. I have tried all options "SHIFT + RESTART" Have to offer but it goes over to black screen from there. I cannot get the laptop to enter bios (tried possible options). It is a HP Compaq CQ58. Any advice. I dont want access info on it. I need to format it or Factory Reset it. TIA
