I have a Samsung SSD 840 Evo and a Gigabyte motherboard GA 970aud3p ATX AM3+. I am attempting to perform a secure erase. I have copied Windows onto a USB and have booted from USB into my BIOS. After I push "Y" to confirm that I want to perform the erase on my Samsung SSD I get a message that says, "secure erase not supported by selected SSD". After some research I tied to disconnect the SSD completely for about 20 seconds, and retry the secure erase using the segui0 prompt from DOS. Going through the same steps, I still get that message. I am using Samsung magician.

Need help or ideas please please please!!! Need to do this tonight which is why I can't wait until tomorrow to call Samsung.

First...what are you actually trying to do?
You can't Secure Erase the drive that the OS and Magician lives on.

You'd have to create a boot DVD or USB, boot from that, and then Secure Erase that drive.

But why are you wanting to do this?

As I stated in my original post, I have already created a boot drive and am booting from my USB. I have also already stated in my post that I am trying to perform a secure erase of my SSD. Why I want to do this is a completely irrelevant question but I will answer anyways. I have a virus or SOMETHING which is causing my FPS to drop intermittently. Anyways hopefully you can answer my original question now!!!

Yes, I had exactly this same thing the other day, trying to S E my 840 EVO.
The tool reported that the drive was in a 'Frozen' state, and to disconnect it, blah, blah...

All I can recommend is....try again, leaving it disconnected for a longer period of time.

Yea it's my BIOS which is telling me that secure erase is supported. It says nothing about it being "frozen" though, just not supported. Well maybe it's the magician but I am in my BIOS when I get the message. I left it unplugged for about 30 secs, how long did you unplug it? Did you unplug both cords, power AND information cord? And did you re attempt through DOS?

The SecureErase said it doesn't work in WIn 8.1, and need to create some boot media.
OK, did that...created a DVD.
Boot from that DVD, and it reported the drive was 'Frozen'. Disconnect for XX seconds and segui0 to restart the function.
Did that, and it worked just fine. Drive erased and now working as the boot drive.

Your BIOS should have nothing to do with it. Boot from whatever media you created for this.
