See watt in speaker?

Helping grandma getting rid of some of my late grandpa's stuff. We found two speakers and a receiver. The receiver is a Yamaha RX-V496RDS and the speakers are unmarked but they look at least 25 years old. Is there any way to see how many watt the speakers are at by opening them up or something?

Even opening them may not tell you anything. If there are no model identification markings, it will be difficult. Speakers kind of all look alike so even a google image search won't tell you much.

There is no model name, brand name or anything and yeah they look like every other speaker. Alright then, thanks for your help, just wanted to hear if there was anything to look for

Depending on the speaker, they may be easy to open or hard. Some speakers are sealed to make them air-tight. Some the back just screws on. You might then find some info inside, you might only find part numbers. Those part numbers might lead somewhere. Post pictures. Somebody may recognize something about them. There is also a forum called AVS forum -- http://www.avsforum.com/forum/88-audio/ You might post the pictures there.

Most speakers are mounted to the front of the box and the back is not removable. You can remove the woofer. It might be marked with a make and model. The recommended power for the woofer would give you a pretty good idea of the wattage that the entire speaker can handle since the tweeter usually only uses 10-20 watts more than the woofer.
If you want to sell them it doesn't matter since that don't have a make or model therefore little to no value. Sounds like they may have come for an all in one system and your grandpa replaced the original electronics with the Yamaha receiver when it broke.
