Greetings!
Upon reading my title I'm sure some of you think "oh great, another one of those" but bear with me
I consider my self a semi-enthusiast but... well... I'm also a simple man!
I'm on the lookout for a motherboard that overclocks well the 7700k and it's ram (going for 3200 cl-14) , but I really don't care about a lot of the extra features that go with the higher tier models.
One PCI-e gfx card slot and one proper nvme slot are enough!
I don't care about blinky lights, thunderbolts, wifi, dual lan, onboard sound quality (got a dedicated one), usb-c and so on...!
I've been researching for the past few days and I'm kinda stumped.
So far, I'm leaning towards the Asus Prime Z270-A.
Thing is that upon visiting multiple sites, I can't seem to come to a definitive conclusion on the overclocking potential difference between higher and mid-tier models. The number of power phases don't seem to matter as much as it did and it all comes down to....m/b heatsinks? Higher quality what?
For instance, I see tom's reviews of some motherboards that their 7700k goes upto 4.8ghz and on others sites, the same m/b easily go upto 5-5,1.
Obviously they might have a different 7700k(and I might get a potato) but even on sites that have tested chips and achieved over 5ghz, their prime z270-a for instance, achieves the same more or less overclock (same chip) compared to some ridiculous 600$ motherboard.
Also, some reviews are old while others newer (with maybe newer/better bios revision) so I can't seem to come to an informed decision.
My target price range is between 150-250$...as I said sensibly priced since I live in Greece and prices here are....er....meh 🙁
I'm eagerly awaiting your input!
