Seeking Nvidia Graphics card for VR Gaming

Hello, I have a $1000.00 budget to upgrade from my Gigabyte GTX 760 4gb Graphics card, to something that will give me best performance for VR gaming, with the Oculas Rift. And was wondering what my best options were... I was thinking of buying 2x GTX 970's but recently heard they are only 3.5gb not 4gb and take a performance hit when they need to pool from the other 0.5 of Vram. So I have been exploring the option of getting a GTX 980 Ti. Am I better off getting 1x GTX 980 ti or 2x GTX 970 SLi? If the GTX 980 Ti is the best option which one is the best choice within my budget???

the 980 ti will not perform as well as two 970's in sli, but with sli there always comes problems, and vram doesent stack, so the 6gb from the 980 ti is really the best way to go in my opinion. I would highly reccomend getting a 980 ti and not 2 970's... Hope this helps!
