hi,i have to replace one of my hard drives.
i replaced a hard drive before in older pc,so thought it would be easy enough again. wrong!
i have attached photos.
how on earth do i get access to the screws that are holding the hard drive in?
the metal strip above it looks like it needs to come away first, but it seems to be hel in with tiny round screws.
hope someone can make sense of it.

thanks

how on earth do i remove that?
Open four lower plastic clamps and
remove two screws.
Check for screws on other side of pc case also.

Once all screws are removed, you should be able to remove drive cage.

my next problem is,which drive is the one i need to take out. they both exact same model. one is G other is F i need to remove F
Remove drive one.
Boot into system and check, if you removed the correct one.
Option #1 - you removed correct one. Done. Profit.
Option #2 - you removed wrong one. Shutdown. Remove connected one and connect the other one. Done. Profit.

i figured that at start. just a hassle having to connect pc up and disconnect.

LOL.

If drive model names were different, you could check model name associated with drive letter in Disk Management.
But since model names are the same, you'd have to find drive serial number and find which drive letter is associated with which drive serial number.
You can check serial number with HDtune.

Anyway - testing with connecting/disconnecting is easier and probably not much different regarding time spent.

when reinstalling drives, make sure to stack them in the order that the letters will be assigned or just write on them with an erasable marker or something.
next time, won't have to worry about it.

i would definitely also take the time to clean out this area while the cage is removed...

may also want to add some sort of filter to the front to help keep all the dust out for the future.
i always used to keep a large roll of very fine mesh screen around for old cases like this that didn't offer good filters.

To identify , disconnect the sata data cable from one of the drives and power up. See which drive is missing.
Why do you need to replace the drive?
Could you simply leave it in place and disconnect the power and data cables?
It looks like there are additional empty drive bays available.
Are these really big storage drives?
If not would not a ssd replacement be better?

OK so i put drive in,started pc,drive dosent appear in windows explorer. its there in device manager.
googled about, seems it has to be formatted and partitioned before it appears in explorer.
its a 2TB Seagate ironwolf.
can i just partition as much or little as i want?

ok,im asking this,as dont want to make a mistake
im at the "use the following partition style" part
MBR OR GPT
Remember its not for Operating system

Can i make the partition for example 1mb? as small as possible,no advantage making it any bigger is there?
Why? It would be useless.
Anyway - 8MB is minimum partition size possible.

For drives larger than 2TB you have to use GPT. Or part of drive capacity will be unavailable.
For drives less than 2TB - it doesn't matter. Choose either.
