Hi, I edit video in 4K and 5K
And I'm looking for a good video card for editing.
I don't do visual effects.
I have a computer
i7 4930K
32 GB memory
x79-ud3 motherboard
The video in 4K
Working slowly .
I'm looking for faster streaming also in media player/
I want to buy
GeForce RTX 3050 Is it good enough for editing in 4K ?
This is what my budget allows, if there is another option within the budget I would love to hear it

Thanks for the response .

The budget is about 300-320 dollars

Now I have on my computer
A very simple video card.
There are many GPU's that would be a better choice than a 3050.
A used GTX 1080 ti or 2060 Super would both out perform a 3050, for less money.
If you want new, I'd consider the Nvidia 3060 or the 6600-XT.

What do you have for a power supply? If you get a model number, or a picture like below, I could tell you what is compatible.

Assuming your PSU is the Antec VP500PC, you only have one 6pin VGA power connector, limiting you to an RX-6500 or similar.
I'd suggest saving a bit more to get a new power supply as well as a new GPU.
If you wanted it right now with the same budget though, you could likely work something if you bought both items used though.

The antec VP500pc has 2x 6+2 connectors, according to this.

Regardless, I would highly recommend a higher quality unit.

What video editing software are you using.

Usually a lot of video editing software uses CUDA. But the real limitation is the offloading over the pcie bus. The raw frames during editing just werent designed for desktop cards.

This is why they have quadro cards with lots of memory which act as a buffer during editing. But only certain video software uses Quadro software.

You might be able to find a decent used cheap one on fleebay. But I wouldn't recommend less than 16 gigs gpu memory. And you'll likely need a better power supply.

And if you have the free pcie slots upgrade to a m.2 drive array. A lot of frames get flushed out to strange in raw format. This is a lot of bandwidth. So fast storage is vital here. To be honest with you I'm not even sure m.2 is supported on pcie from that gen. So double check specs before you buy.

I believe LTT did a series just on video editing hardware and what they use.

Hi, thanks for the reply

I have 2 connections of 6
not one in power supply
I opened the computer now and checked.
------------------------------------------------------------
Regarding the question of editing software
The editing software I work with is lightwroks

It is important for me to edit properly in 4K.
That the video card will work with it is good

But one that does the job

I don't work with visual effects
Only COLOR GRADE

Maybe
PNY RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6 XLR8 Gaming REVEL EPIC-X RGB Dual Fan HDMI 3xDP ?

It can enter
In the budget with adding a little more money
But that's the maximum.

I saw that it requires 550W
But maybe it will work with 500.?

No, your PSU is insufficient. I'd recommend no more than an entry level RX 6600 with your current PSU.

thank you for the answer

I have 2 cables
of 6 pins.
No 1. As said.

So it is also suitable for
gtx

It is correct that you have enough cables, but the PSU itself is questionable. You only have 408W on the 12v rail, a 3060 can pull almost half that by itself, around 180W.
A safer bet would be the RX 6600, which pulls around 120W

Either way I'd suggest a new PSU as already mentioned.

No. With about 400w @12v your PSU is a 400w unit instead of 500w. It's a low quality unit with very outdated design and after all those years it's not reliable anymore. Replace it!

And about the PCI-e cable. My guess it's an adaptercable from 1x 6 pin to 2x 6+2 pin. Follow the cable to the PSU.

I'm not going to invest that much in this computer
Because I'm replacing it soon anyway
for the new generation
INTEL or amd
of 16 cores

But I wanted to buy a good graphics card
This will save me buying a new graphics card

I might try to buy
GTX 3060
and run with this power supply
With this it will work with this power supply it was excellent
with no
In the worst case, the power supply will burn out
Or the computer won't work. :)

with the rest of the system includes the new GPU.
It's a problematic.
I thought only the power supply could burn
Or it just won't work.

With this may affect all components including GPU
It's a problem .
I won't take any chances.

If this is the PSU you mean, then yes it is sufficient for a 3060.

But a 3060 is out of your original budget anyway. If you're already over budget, might as well get a higher quality PSU to pair with that expensive GPU. Then when you upgrade the rest of your system, you can just swap them both over care free.
