Selecting the proper DDR4 RAM

Good morning Tom's.

I'm trying to decide what speed of DDR4 to pair with the Asus ROG Maximus VIII Gene motherboard.

2133 is the baseline that is guaranteed to work. I've not had the best experience pairing higher-clocked RAM with motherboards that may or may not play nice with it.

What speed of DDR4 would you pair with this motherboard?

That MB would work with pretty much any high speed DDR4, but, personally, i would not go abore 2400 unless doing heavy rendering.

No heavy rendering, gaming is the primary use of the new build.

This i5-6600K system will be replacing my i7-950 system as my daily driver.

I'd look to 2666/2800 for best price to performance purchase (maybe even higher depending on price). Most of the gaming rigs I build for clients are taking 2800 - 3200 in a 2x8GB set. GSkill Trident Z and Ripjaws V are the top picks

That's solid info. I'm pleased that you considered price/performance ratio. I have a 2x8GB config in mind, so this really helps.
