Selection of a LCD dispay for business

Recently I came across an article on this site regarding the selection of LCD displays based on panel type for accurate color reproduction rather than cost. The article stated that TN style of LCD displays was not a good choice for good color reproduction. I need the display for CAD, photoshop and marketing graphics work. Games not an issue.

I have researched this matter and have focused on some Viewsonic and Samsung models in the 24, 26, 27 and 30 monitor size. The viewsonic displays are described as TFT Active Matrix displays and the Samsung monitors are either a-si-TFT/TN and SPVA style displays. I'm also interested in the Hanns-G brand monitors which appear to have good reviews and are aggressively priced.

Buying the right LCD display for business needs is a challenge and it is easy to get sucked into the low price offerings.

Most LCD monitors in the 24" and 26" categories use TN panels.

All 27" LCD monitors use TN panels to the best of my knowledge.

It seems color accuracy is important for your needs so you need to focus on monitors using S-PVA, P-MVA or better yet IPS panels. In the 24" LCD category, these start $550 unless they are on sale. There are only two IPS monitors in the is market segment, the HP LP2475w (~ $650) and the NEC LCD2490WUXi (~ $1,100). The HP is geared towards the general consumer while the NEC is geared at the graphic professional and includes extra electronics to ensure color accuracy and uniformity.

Stay far away from anything produced by Hanns-G amongst others.

Personally I use the 26" NEC LCD2690WUXi as my primary monitor and I am currently saving up money for another one for the day my good 'ol 19" Planar PX191 from 2002 die (it uses a S-PVA panel). The 2690 is around $1,200+; like any "WUXi" series from NEC it is rather expensive because of all the extra electronics they put into it. I'm not a graphics professional, but I have relatively high image quality standards; it's for general usage.

I have a friend who does professional graphics work, but he balked at the price of the 2690. Therefore, I recommended the 26" Planar PX2611w which retails for around $750+. It uses the same H-IPS panel that the NEC 2690 uses, but lacks all the extra electronics for improve color accuracy and color uniformity.

I would recommend Eizo monitors since they are geared towards the graphic professionals, but their monitors are a bit pricey; a little more expensive than the NEC WUXi series.
