Sell Half-Life 2 second hand?

Hi Guys, just a quick q.

I bought Half Life 2 on the day of release and installed it. Haven't really
played it properly yet, just done a couple of quick tests to see how well my
pc runs it.

About a week later I found out about the limited edition tin box set, and I
ordered that too. It arrived last week.

Now, it was my original intention to sell the unopened version of the game
that came with the tin box on ebay, but to my surprise the game packaging
inside the box is different to the standard retail version, so I can't sell
it seperately.

So I was going to sell the original game, but then I realised - I've already
registered the cd key for that version with steam. If I sell the game
second hand, will the buyer be able to enter that same key again or will it
be refused? If so, is there any way to delete or 'de-register' that key?

Many thanks,

James

You'd have to sell your steam account that the game is "registered" under.

NO, but you can sell the Steam-Account it is registered too and
register the new version you bought to a new Steam-Account.

Only problem is that you will be selling all other games on your
Steam-Account as well (if you had other Steam games allreday).

Another option is to install the new game you bought to another
Steam-Account and sell that, but then you would sell the extrax in the
"special edition" along with it (like the extra games included).

Unfortunately the only way to transfer a CD Key to another Steam accout
would be for your 2nd hand buyer to contact Valve and have them transfer
the CD Key (alot of extra hassle for your 2nd hand buyer). The
alternative that Patrick suggested is just to supply your old Steam
account and password with the game, and create a new Steam account for
the Collectors edition tin.
