Hey TH, looking to bump up my gaming performance, by selling my Dell Optiplex 9020 and buying new and/or used parts. Just want to see what you guys think, and if I can get enough from the sale to build a new pc with better performance. Was thinking I could sell it for around $400, or a bit more depending on if they want a GPU, or if I throw in a SATA SSD. All funds are in CAD.
Optiplex Specs:
PSU: Stock Dell 290W
Storage: 500GB 7200 rpm hdd
GPU: Intel HD 4600, or R7 250 2GB DDR3 (+$25) or R7 260x (+$50)
CPU: i7-4770 (4 core, 8 threads) @ 3.4GHz, 3.9GHz turbo
Memory: 14GB DDR3 @ 1600MHz (4x4x4x2)
Chipset: Q87 Express
Right now I can game at 1080p 30fps locked medium-high settings in most AAA games (higher in esports games), or 60fps locked on low-medium. With no streaming or game recording, I'd like to get a locked 60fps medium-high at 1080p. I know I could get there with a new GPU, but that would require a new PSU and adapter, and maybe an ssd would be nice too, but I'm starting at a $0 budget, and don't really want to invest much in this old platform. I'd be fine with an AMD APU if it meets my needs, and can get a GPU down the road. Already have a monitor and kb/m. Thanks for any help about whether or not this is doable, or if I'm asking for too much from this 5 year old PC.
