Title says it all. My best friend wants to buy my E521 because I finally got around to building my first computer, yay me. Anyways. He offered me 700 dollars but thats about a 100 less than I spent on it. I told him I wasn't gonna rip him off and I'd get back to him on the price. Everything is pretty stock. AMD 3800+ (I have a 5600+ Brisbane I could potentially throw in but meh) and an 8600GTXXX (spare 4670 laying around here) and 3 gigs of ram @ whatever speed dell limits it to. PNY ram though. Not their Hyundai ram. Anyways. You guys frequent this section so you probably have a fair idea of what I should ask for it.

Thanks for any and all input

Regards,
Josh

225$ is a good price would go higher but those damn e521 have btx motherboards that make it imposible to intall a dual slot graphics card and the 305 wat psu sucks and i think they came with slower ram than the mobo supports (i could be wrong)

275 with the 5600 x2 brisbane

The best source for market value information is actual market transactions - you might go on eBay, search under Computers for the Dell E521, then click on "Completed Items" and see for how much the listings sold. You might look at the detail for a few to make sure features match - you might need to add a nominal amount for the video card and memory.

I suspect the price will be a lot closer to what josherrr recommended that what your friend offered to pay. I congratulate you for not being greedy and just taking his offer. If he really does have $700 to spend - you and he might be amazed at how much faster a computer - and a new one with warranty - he could get from Dell now for that.

Or look at this non-Dell with AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core Processor 5000+, 550w PSU, 640GB HD, AND MS Office Professional all for only $495 + $40 shipping at eBay under the buy it now option. For a $100 he could get an AMD 4850 or nVidia 9600GT video card that would run circles around yours. Off course you have the risk of third party system and eBay purchase.

But then you would still have a surplus PC and no cash.

if you sold it to him for $700 that would be highway robbery.

Go check out ebay. Login and do an advanced search to see how much those sell for. That generation of system usually sells on ebay and craigslist for $200-300, as dell sells better new systems for just $400-450 on their website.

I got a dell studio 540s w\ a Q8200,6gb,750gb,hd3450 for $350 on ebay.... so even if you paid $1200 for it 2 years ago, it's worth only a portion of that now.
