When I press the power switch, my computer turns on for about 2 seconds and then off, only to repeat the process...

CPU: i3-3220
Motherboard: GA-Z77-DS3H
Memory: [strike]Old 4GB memory[/strike] 8GB DDR3-1600 Patriot memory
Video Card: Old GT 430
Hard Drive: Old WD Caviar Black 500GB
Case: Antec 300
Power Supply: [strike]Old Thermaltake PSU[/strike] Antec HCG-620M
DVD Drive: Old Lite-On

Last week, I dropped my computer down the stairs and when I checked to see if it worked it wouldn't boot at all. Since I couldn't find any LGA1156 mobos for sale I went ahead and got a new CPU, mobo and case from Newegg, while salvaging the GPU, HDD, PSU, memory and DVD drive from my old build.

The stuff came and I put it together with ease. When I pressed the power switch, everything turned on. The fans, the CPU cooler, everything. But then it shut off after 2 seconds, only to turn on and off again.

I figured it would be either the PSU or RAM, so yesterday I went to Fry's and got replacements for both. Still no luck.

I tried shorting the two wires on the motherboard to see if it was a faulty power button. Nothing.

I also tried the "breadboarding" method to see if the mobo was shorting with the chassis. It wasn't, and the problem was still there.

I opened it up and reseated everything. The memory, the cables, everything. Still the same problem. Also reset the CMOs.

The CPU is aligned right, and none of the pins are bent. The memory is inserted correctly too. Both the 24-pin and the 8-pin power connectors are connected.

What could be the cause of this problem right now? My guess is a faulty motherboard, but there might be something I missed. Since my case doesn't have a POST speaker, I can't tell what's going on when my PC boots up. I might get one from Fry's today if I have time.

Solution
I'd check the hard drive before you go any further... use a spare or some cheapo someplace put the hard drive in and see if you can start a windows install process or anything on it, see it it will even just boot and or get an error, if it can get it to do anything else other then rebooting over and over with the new hard drive then I'd say its the drive.

Or even better would be to just buy a data transfer cable or a hard drive dock, plug up the hard drive and see if windows on another system can even see the hard drive.

Yep, did all that. Only one I'm having second thoughts with is 16 (static electricity) but I used an ESD band when putting this together so it shouldn't have been too much of a problem...

Getting a case speaker to listen to the beep codes would be my next step..If it gets past the BIOS POST and tries to boot, you may have issues because the drivers installed on the HDD are for your old MB..

Alright, I'll get one later today. I think I have a W7 disk somewhere that I could use...

I agree, I'll also get a SATA to USB adapter on the way to Fry's.

Good luck!

Update:

Well, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that the hard drive is absolutely fine. I hooked it to my friend's laptop and it detects all the partitions. No clicking sound either.

The bad news is that after I put in the case speaker and booted it up, there were no beeps. Absolutely none. No long beep, no short beep, nothing. Why is that? Is the motherboard faulty?
