Semi-new hard drive problems

I bought this hard drive a while ago it has 1tb on it i bought it because i ran out of room on my old one. It worked fine until one day I tried to download a game on steam and it said disk write error. I tried to play a game with that hard drive and it worked, but if there was an update for the game I could not play it. I cannot create a new folder in the hard drive but I can access the files. I can moves files from the new hard drive to my old one. I am utterly confused.

it will mean that there is a section of the HDD that has failed and it won't write to it, normally it'd just write somewhere else, not sure why it isn't.

Don't do anything else, make a backup NOW of all of the important stuff. Then we'll talk about fixing it.

^^ do that after securing important data. Work with the assumption that the next time you ask for something off the disk it will fail, and every time it doesn't you are lucky.
