I've installed the driver from amd.com for sempron cool'n'quite, and enable the cool'n'quite from BIOS, also not forget to change the power management to minimal power management. I could not find any differentiation on the cpu clock speed which was still 1,600Ghz after several minutes.

Download CPUZ and see the real clock; <properties> pannel of My Computer only shows the rated (top) frequency, it does not show the real time frequency.

I'm sorry for not mentioning that I've tried with the cpuz version 1.35 too. It didn't work. I'm afraid the Cool'n'Quite technology doesn't work in this type of Sempron processor.

ah, yes, If I am not wrong, C'n'Q works only for Semprons 1.8G and above. That was for the 754 ones but maybe applies to AM2 too.
Anyway, for these low clock rates it's not needed so much. It only makes My A64 3000+ run 1°C cooler.

i can't find any information from amd.com that informs sempron 3000+ is supporting the cool'n'quiet technology. the only reference is from the cpu box itself and from wikipedia.org.

i think it would be cool to have a system which can dynamically change it clock speed depends on the processor work load. it's just like the intel laptop processor hehehe

Are you sure you have installed the right C'n'Q drivers?

Well my Sempron 3000+ works with Cool n' Quiet. It's currently installed in my file server which is on 24/7. So lower power consumption during idle times is a bonus.

I use a Coolermaster Hyper48 HSF which is also QUIET. The loudest part of my rig are the Seagate Cheetah 15,000RPM SCSI U320 drives. But even they're not that noticeable in my Antec P180 case.

So all this to say that Cool n' Quiet has been supported in Sempron 3000's and higher since Sempron64 scoekt 754 was introduced. So it's supported as low as Sempron64 3000+ in socket 754. Sempron AM2's are different. Only Sempron's with multipliers greater then 8 support Cool n' Quiet.

Sempron64 AM2 3200+ and higher only. This is due to the fact that the 3000+ model on AM2 is clocked at 1.6Ghz but has 256KB of L2 Cache vs. the 3000+ model on 754 clocked at 1.8Ghz but with 128KB of L2 Cache.

1.6Ghz = 1600MHz
8 x 200 = 1600MHz

Thus the 3000+ AM2 does NOT support Cool n' Quiet.

At this point I have no idea of what it could be but read your mombo's manual and see if there is any locking jumper for C'n'Q (improbable but could be), also read carefully the steps of the Bios setup.

oh nooo, amd should really give the detail information about this thing on its own website for sure. it's hard for new user like me to know what feature is on each type of processor.

that's why i cannot see the c'n'q driver works.

imho, amd should really consistent with it's name like all the 3000+ should have the sampe feature as the former socket so that the end user won't be confused. i thought it will support c'n'q so that i suggested my client to buy that very value processor. but it's ok, it's not a big deal without the c'n'q because its performance outperform pentium 4 2.4ghz and my client is happy for it.

You're not loosing much in a desktop with that PCU. I have nailed my A64 @ 1.8G because I set CrystalCPUID to undervolt it @ 1.25V on Windows logon; it's healthier than having C'n'Q enabled. I get 6°C drop on load compared to the 1.50V my ASUS board pushes it.

My experience in intel speed step on p4 630, it just decreased its multiplier so that the minimum clock speed down to 2,8ghz. I don't know in c2d processor. The intel centrino is even awesome, it can reduce its clock speed to a 600-700mhz and still runs fast. therefore i really like this cool'n'quiet technology for having such feeling of running mobile processor on a budget desktop, hehehe

I don't think S3K+ (AM2) would support C'n'Q.

The technology requires a multiplier of 9 to work as the transistion state will restrict the processor to run between 9x and the maximum mlitiplier.

Kind of speedstep, it drops the multiplier to 5X (5x200=1000Mhz) on non intense work and ramps it back to the highest on load. I like it too but my stupid budget board has no voltage control and furthermore supplies it with 1.50V instead of 1.35-1.40 ( this to match some olted S939 cores).
C'n'Q still does the trick; it sets vcore @ 1.25, constant 1800Mhz on startup and it runs cool and stable (less voltage, less power).

Don't know! Basically, only semprons 1.8G and above should have it. 3000+ S754 is 1.8G while 3000+ AM2 is only 1.6G, like the 2800+ 754. They've done the stupid trick they did with Athlons' transition from 754 to 939; increasing the model number only because of dual channel IMC and added SSE3.
Or maybe it's just an issue with your board, check the manual carefully.

that's the url of the motherboard specification and it indicates that the motherboard support the C'n'Q feature.

from what the amd technician said and the specification listed from the motherboard, i can't enable the C'n'Q. perhaps AMD Sempron 3000+ really doesn't support C'n'Q technology, or the MSI K9NGM only support C'n'Q for Sempron with 1,8Ghz or above.

i've tried the C'n'Q with Athlon 64 X2 3800 AM2 + Biostar TForce 6100 AM2, and it works just fine. Easy to enable the C'n'Q, and it cut down the clock speed to 50% which was from 2Ghz to 1Ghz. It's awesome!

Yes but for your 3000+ it would mean to go @ 60% for 1 core with 1/4 L2 cache; probably there is not much you can gain in power consumption @ these levels that's why they haven't enabled it.
To get a clearer view, download Crystal CPUID; on the startup screen (bottom) are listed all the instructions supported by the CPU, C'n'Q included and you can even try to chance the multiplied manually there.
