Please can someone give me a word of advice! I'm looking to upgrade in the next few days and uncertain which processor to choose! Its between the AMD Athlon64 3000+ and the AMD Sempron 3300+. I use my PC for gaming purposes only and am struggling to make the choice! Does anyone have and advice or maybe links to webbies that compare the two processors etc.. I would really appreciate the help

Thanks in Advance

Get the A64. For about $10 more, you get 4X more cache and a chip with a dual core memory controler, on a platform that is slightly more upgradeable (get the s939 chip).

Socket 754 vs 939, the best chipset is a standard nf4, no ultra or sli capabilities, that is S939 territory...

Trust me I know what I'm doing... ooops, grab the cat...

Have a look here:
<A HREF="http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2395&p=6" target="_new">http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2395&p=6</A>

For most apps, the sempron is pretty close to the A64, but for gaming, the A64 is head and shoulders above it (much to my surprise really).

I thank you all for your speady responses and thanks to all you guys a can now have peace of mind and buy the Athlon64 and i am goona get a board from the K8 Triton series, the one with the NVIDIA nForce4 4X chipset.

It has 1 PCI-Express 16X
Dual Channel DDR 400
Firewire & GIG lan
8 Channel sound etc...

Now the only debate is wheather to get extra cash and buy the 3200+ or rather use the extra cash to get a better PCI Xpress card. I wanna buy the GIGABYTE ATI RADEON X550!

I am not sure how good it is but it's all I can afford :(
I live in South Africa and these PC [-peep-] is way over priced ;(

All I wanna do with my new PC s play games like UT 2004 or Battlefield 2 without my PC freezing like it currently does when I play CS: Souce...

Please dont get the 550. It's just an OCed 300, for more money. It's a lousy gaming card. If this was just an internet engine, I would say get the 300, and do your own OC, to save money.
The absolute minimum card you should get is a 700, or better yet a 6600 nvidia card. If you can do that by getting the sempron, you would be way further ahead in game.

top of my budget card list is the X800GT... then a 6600GT then a X700Pro, I have a A64-3000 & X700pro & they work quite well with bf2 @1024x768 at medium quality settings (minimum of a gig of ram is a good idea)
