Sempron toughy, can u solve it?

First of all, a hello to all of you as i am new to this forum,
Id like to know if there is a way to get by my locked bios and overclock my cpu and ram.

- Compaq sr1710nx
- AMD Sempron 3400+
-2GB ocz pc 3200 ddr ram
- 1gb stock compaq ram
-400 watt psu

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Ive looked and did not find answers so im trying my luck here.

If more power/speed is what you want......... upgrade my friend.
I am not tying to be mean just Real..... This is probably the reason you have found so little on this ......
AMD overdrive maybe...... but doubtful

With pcs such as the one you describe it is not avery good idea at all. for multiple reasons....

Is this setup sufficient enough to play games (call of duty 4, medal of honor, etc)

Ive already ordered a 8600 gts for 25$ so ill end up with

-2.0 ghz
-3 gb ram
-8600 gts
-400 watt psu

The one I have is fairly decent, 400 watt 25 Amp 12v rail and 85% efficency with thermal fan adjustment.

you shuld hav gut a 4670, try clockgen for ocing, and if you have an nvidia chipset, you can use ntune you should be able to hit 2.5 but take baby steps and watch the temps.

Xaira: I can still get a different card, the 8600 gts was so cheap i dont mind giving it to my brother. Ive tried clockgen, i downloaded it and when i went to overclock there were no slider bars, it just showed my clock circle and thats it. I have a Amberine M (A8AE-LE) mobo, im not sure what chip set it has. Im just trying to squeeze as much performance as i can out of this little machine, cooling isnt a problem. (Stock processor temp 29C) Thank you for your help, reply when u can ( im a little anxious to see what clock speed i might be able to get if i can get passed the bios)

xtc: Its a powmax 400 watt, I had it laying around. It should be decent enough, I only run one harddrive, and a couple fans along with a couiple sticks of ram. The origanal psu was a 250 watt and 14 amp 12v rating. It ran everything fine. Thank you for your help , I really appreciate it.

All profiles on this board are explicitly LOCKED!!!!
Even at the driver level there are no options avaliable to OC.

Like Xaira said, you could try ClockGen, or SetFSB. AMD overdrive only works when the chipset is like an AMD. i.e 780G,.

hey XTC!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much, that seconed url you posted up ("One guy here says he has done it with clockgen.

I can now run comfortably at 2.35ghz as to the old 2ghz, thank you. I just have a question tho, what can i do to ease my processor ( like things i can do to hellp it)? i heard adding a good sound card relieves stress of the processor, is it true? and what can i do relieve stress of my 12v rail?

Good Aftermarket Air cooler...choice is yoursin brand or model.. just make sure it will fit in your case.

Hmm... a socket 939 semperion. Well, your upgrade options are pretty limited. You could try a software based overclocking solution like CPU Boost or SoftFSB. Just google software overclocking utilities to learn more. It's past time to look into upgrading if you plan to play any games, but at least using those software utilities may help you get some understanding of overclocking before you build your own computer . Hey, no biggie if you fry it right

Dune > Make sure you stress test and watch temperatures carefully. Use something like Prime95, OCCT, etc.

I dropped it down 2.25 Ghz, the temperature was nice right around there (35C) i have good airflow (just about the only good thing on this machine) Im using speed fan right now, but i hate it. I personally have to say its to sketchy, its wrong 50% of the time so Prime95 here i come!!! thank you

Instead of TT have you thought of the high quality PSUs? Corsair, Antec, SeaSonic PCP&C?


SpeedFan is a temperature monitor, but you must've understood wrong

Prime95, OCCT is a stress test tool.

Try something like HWMonitor or CoreTemp for temps.

AKM, Whats the difference between a mid level PSU and High level psu? Reliability. I have a low level, turkey dicked, ass wipe of a computer, Im sorry but Im not spending more on a Power supply then what i really need. Ive reviewed, the thermal take is nice, its gonna be reliable considering. Haha, Its like trying to put a honda engine (corsair psu) into a kia (My pc), the computer is gone blow first, not the psu. thank you tho for your concerns, im flattered haha.

Your welcome... OK its all good man.... But its really not about the PSU blowing or not... Reliable, continous and stable power output is highly sought after when OCing. I have had some problems when the output power inconsistacies of low end PSus interfere with proper operation life of my "subject" systems. For normal operations the PSU would deffinitly suffice. Now add: Better cooling, HD Video card and last but not least the OCd Chip s...

Im glad you liked the TT. It has been a very good PSU to me (and Im not nice to it at all.) I hope it will serve you as well as it has for me.
