They are not as good as a Barton core CPU. They are as good as a Thorobred.

Well there is and there isn't. I have my XP-2500 clocked-up to 3000+ and I definitely notice the difference. However, I would get a 2600 Mobile chip and overclock it to 2.4ghz or so. They do it with ease and run fairly cool.

Get a Mobile Barton while they are still available. Plus it's the best choice by far if you plan to overclock. Mobile Bartons are the only processors that are unlocked.

Here's a quick comparison of a variety of models.

Sempron 2600+ = 1.8 Ghz, FSB 166 Mhz, L2 Cache 256KB, price $80.55 *
Barton XP2600+ = 1.9 Ghz, FSB 166 Mhz, L2 Cache 512BM, price $107.99 **
Mobile Barton XP2600+, 2.0 Ghz, FSB 133 Mhz, L2 Cache 512KB, price $97.99 *
Thoroughbred XP2600+ = 2.08 Ghz, FSB 166 Mhz, L2 Cache 256KB, price $91.99 *, ***

* - Newegg.com pricing including shipping for OEM model
** - Newegg.com pricing including shipping for Retail model (includes heatsink + fan)
*** - 133 Mhz FSB model existed at one time.

Semperons are nothing but T-Bred Athlons but cost more.

Your old 2500+ runs pretty good at 10.5 X 200mhz. I couldn't make it run using the "10" multiplier.

Semps are not a good choice for OCing since AMD is trying to control that to keep their marketing plan.
