....should I send it back or will person who it is for will be happy with it?

Some summary of the problem. I was looking for the birthday present and was considering Surface Go / huawei matebook d 14, samsung tab 4 or ipad 2017 version.

With surface Go I would have to compromise so was not convinced and these thick black bezels, bleee. I love the keyboard though and the idea of 2 in 1 laptop.

Samsung tab 4. I had samsung galaxy 10.5 (it died with no sign of dying), google tablet (it died after 1 year, out of warranty without any previous signs) so I have thought that ipad might be more reliable than android tablets I had. Samsung tab 4 looks quite good though so I still considered it. (I have never owned apple product - not sure what to expect from iOS)

Huawei - solid, strong performance. Good value for money but will it not look little too boring? It does not have fingerprint scanner and what do I even do with touchscreen , it is not like yoga laptop, right, can I use pencil?

So I have got ipad pro 2018, it will be delivered next week but I am still not convinced.

Should I keep it or do you have any other ideas? I paid £ 650 for it. Would you be happy with it, the thing is my wife sent me mixed messages few months ago, she said that she misses having a tablet but also would love to have a new laptop (stubborn lenovo ipad z570 - is still going strong, I put 250 GB SSD in it and there is nothing wrong with it imo) but new is always better :)

Many thanks,

There is no way to know who will be happy with what device, what someone else likes does not matter.

I would not buy an iPad pro in the first place, too much money, too large for a tablet.

It all also depends on what use this is for. Just for typing email and watching stuff, I would get a $400 Samsung Chromebook.

Thanks for replying. So +1 for sending back really. I cant find samsung chromebook anywhere.
She likes drawing so thats why I have thought that tablet might be better. When I had samsung tab we got some drawing tool but tablet was very laggy so I have thought that ipad should be lag free. Suffice to say drawing pencil for samsung was never used lol, I dont know. I am panicking now, you are right it is a lots of money but laptops at this price point are bulky and dont have good screen, washed out colours or brightness problems. Why surface pro is so expensive. 2017 ipad would have cost me 150 pounds less. I really wanted this huawei but I cant justify £ 700 on it, it is just not £ 700 machine.

For drawing on the tablet the iPad Pro is good. There are actually lag and pressure tests that were done on tablets and the iPad Pro was one of the best there if not the best. But this is why it's not easy for someone else to tell you what to get since we don't know what it's going to be used for and if you care more about quality than cost. Asking random strangers what your wife may like won't get very good results unless you list a lot of details.

My daughter has a Samsung Plus and it's built well, like a cheaper version of the Google Pixel.

I know it is difficult to advise on something if you dont know that person.
I am struggling here, really am. I got some mixed messages. She mentioned that she would want new laptop but than she mentioned that she misses having a tablet. I have thought that 2 in 1 laptops are the way to go but sadly I could not find anything I liked in my budget (around £ 700), lenovo C530 with ryzen caught my eye but reviews claim that display is dull and not too good. Huawei was one of the choices but than again it cant be folded like lenovo so not good for artists.

Than I have started researching tablets and I like that you can attach keyboard to them and there is full pen support.

Ipad pro would be ideal as I could turn it into semi laptop when I get a keyboard but this would take me over £ 700.

I dont think that samsung chromebooks are available in Europe/UK. I have not seen any.

What does she like:
  • browse, YT,
  • she likes to draw (hated it on samsung tablet due to the odd pen - this was 3rd party pencil with some circular disc instead of a nib - and it lagged a lot)
  • some emails
  • media
  • little typing
  • she does office work from home sometimes and is tired with old laptop

I dont know, Ipad costs a lot of money. Is it worth it? It is gonna be delivered today. I dont know what to do. I will have 28 days to decide.

I saw it in the shop and it looks awesome. I would have liked it but it is not a laptop, right.

Well, we all know you've got iPad pro, then why you'd care to discuss who Surface (go) is for? Nobody shoves it on you, as far as I understand.

And to close this once and forever: I can't run Visual Studio Code on your 'pad, but I can on a Go. Not everybody is a graphic artist, or an iSheep.
