you're not going to get 100Mb with 802.11b

Can the 2 PC's ping each other? For that matter how are they setup, static IP's?

each computer has a wireless card and running off the access point.

as far as pinging each other i dont think so. then again im new to networking so i have no idea. all i know is when i open network places i dont see the other computer on either machine.

oh and the OS im using is Windows 2000 pro w/SP3 on both machines.

do they have static IP's? (is "obtain IP address automatically checked off, or is the IP address/network mask etc. filled in explicitly?)

Describe your setup. Are you sharing your broadband connection through software or do you lease two IP's from your provider. More information needed than what is given

If both computers can see the internet, then it may be as simple as making both computers part of the same workgroup. For Win2k I think you go to Control panel/system/network id.

Give both of them the same workgroup name.

second, Right click on the folder you want to share and click sharing. You have to share a folder to see it in network neighborhood.

802.11b is 11Mbps, 802.11a and 802.11g are 54Mbps. If you want to achieve 100Mbps you will need IEEE 802.3 which is not wireless. (for infastructure mode)

make sure that the comps have unique names and ips otherwise they will not see one another.
