I got the headset yesterday and I have this problem. Previously I had USB gaming headsets and they were all fine loud and good but this time I decided to go with 3.5 MM jack and bought this as I saw a stupid amount of good reviews about it like everyone saying its awesome, best headset they have ever bought, you hear every sound, amazing quality for gaming, etc. Now that I have them I can't even get them loud enough to hear my game properly like foot steps and stuff. My Mobo is MSI Z87-G43, it has Realtek ALC1150, High Definition Audio, Sound Blaster Cinema (I don't know what all that means btw re this headset).

Now I don't know if this is how this headset is supposed to work and everybody loves them like that or there is something wrong with my Mobo, or maybe everyone uses it with an external dac/amp, I don't understand. I have ordered a FiiO-E10k dac/amp to see if it makes any difference, if not I'm gonna have to send them back and get a USB gaming headset. Should I not have expected better quality audio than USB headsets especially for gaming? how do you get the best out of this headset? I'm disappointed as F**k, I really hope I'm doing something really wrong. On a positive note, they are the most comfortable headset I have ever used!

well, if selecting headphone option doesn't fix it, then I'm stumped. I know I can replicate your problem by using headphones as speakers (low volume) but... that is about it.

Only things to test out would be on another computer, either laptop or desktop, if it works, problem is in your computer.
Those sort of headsets require either a integrated sound card with headphone amp or a dedicated sound card to get the most out of them.

I'm mentioning it only because I have almost same headphone (game pc 360, specs are pretty much identical except my cord isn't replaceable) and almost same MB Z87-G45

I have no issues with volume, on computer it is on 10% and it is loud enough to make me deaf if i max it on the headphones. (both in front and back jacks)

Only possible difference is if you have realtek's HD audio manager installed (allows for repurposing of audio ports) or not since I have specified them to be headphones in it.

Its so weird, yeah there isn't much of a difference between the g43 and g45. Mine is no where near as load as you say yours can be. Initially I thought it's 100% my Mobo but what you said is making me think again. Yes, I do have realtek HD audio manager installed, don't know if it makes any difference. What is the bloody problem then? I have tried front and rear jacks, no difference. This is stupid and annoying as hell.

Well, I can also confirm that for me, headphones work same both on desktop and on my laptop (10% is loud enough) and thus.. if you are able to test it on some other computer/laptop and it's still not working, it might be the headphones.

Edit, I can say that if you specify the headphones to be speakers when you plug them in, then the volume will be a LOT lower. (can't get same even on 100%)

so if you don't get pop-up on plugging headphones in asking what it is, realtek hd manager is not working as intended and that creates your problem.

edit2: you should still be able to reconfigure it from realtek hd manager if you run it and right click the jack in question.

Realtk hd manager does not pop up when i plug anything in, I have to run it manually and when i run it once manually then if i plug anything in it pops up and and I select headphones just like you have shown in this pic. Yesterday i got my fiiO E10k and now they're loud enough but they should work fine with my on board as they're only 50 ohm.
