Sennheiser VS Sony Vs Audio Technica

-HH-

Dignified
Basically what should I use: I already have
Sony MDR-1AS
Audio Technica ATH-M50 (not the X)

What I'm looking at and why:
The AT M50X because my M50's are dying but I will carry the brainwavz earpads over.
The sennheiser GAME ONE or ZERO headset
OR recommend some other headphones under 200gbp for gaming/recreational sound which will work well with my Astro Mixamp pro.

I already have a Blue yeti so the mic part isn't neccersary but I like the idea of the Senn headset giving me microphone feedback as sometimes I deafen myself in loud sound and can't hear what I'm saying and often annoy the other people in my house late at night. As we all know windows feedback has a delay and I can't have instant feedback if that makes sense.

Any ideas would be great

The ATH-M50 are one of the best headphones you could purchase in their price range, why do you need to purchase another one? (for example the main diference between the M50 and the M50X are the detachable cable)

Both the sennheiser's are a step down in sound quality (they are not audiophile headset like the AT but gamming ones for a good brand, but still a step down) i would not make the change.

Well that's a bet. A kickstarter with new and unproven technology 😀 but again, the developers come from the gamming world, i would bet that they would be a step if you come from the audiophile world.

8 drivers, 4 on each can will get 100% sure worse sound than any high end headset, ive tested this on several headsets (Roccat Knave with 8 drivers and a razer Tiamat 7.1 with 10 drivers for example) and all of them range from terrible to decent, but never get a really good sound.

Yeah understandably, the thing is the OSSIC hasn't been developed as a gaming headset but VR sound. I'll see what I see but the Audio technica's aren't the perfect headphone, the few flaws I have with them (bare in mind my earpads are different from stock).

Stock earpads are uncomfy
regardless of earpads the clamping force is way too heavy for extensive listening
Hi's can sometimes be a bit harsh a bit like a sennheiser headphones which I don't mind but it's not a balanced sound which I personally like.

The gaming headset market is a finiky one and I've had the likes of Krakens, KAVE XTD's and stuff like that and honestly, they're not bad. They're mediocre but not bad but it's like a double edged sword because I do play games more than anything else but I like a good balance.

Main things I need in a headset are comfort (with glasses)
Sound quality
Soundstage
A bit of bass but not overpowered (which my sony's suffer from a bit)
not too harsh in the hi's which I believe the senns suffer from
and decent build quality because gamer rage happens

Most of those thing you will find them on a "audiophile" headsets and probably would not fit it in gamming ones, but it's mainly a personal choice.

For example on my Pc i have two kind of use, for anything outside games with positional audio i use an old AKG550, but for games with high positional awareness i use a (also old) Roccat Knave Analogic 5.1 but in sound quality they are "decent" but no close near the AKG.

Ofc, the rest of the hardware have also a huge impact on quality, if you use a MB sound with Realtek hardware, you will have less improvement from a good headset, but with a good hardware you could get decent combinations (for example on a Asus Phoebus the Tiamats are night and day playing 192/24 and 96/16 if you have the limit at 96, the Tiamats sound really like trash)

Well, with that kind of harware if you really appreciate a good sound i really doubt that the gamming headphones woudl suit your needs. In your case i would just get a nice audiophile headphones that suit your tastes and add a ModMic 5 if you want a microphone.

there is very little difference between the m50 and m50x. its really not worth the upgrade price to do this just for a removable cable unless you really liked the audio quality.

if you wanted to stay along the same sound signature, the beyerdynamic dt770 is similar but overall a better headphone.

the male 3.5mm plug is not likely to fail. are you sure that it is not the female jack on your phone that is failing? the spring clips is the likely culprit.

No, I don't think the female end really is the culprit but thanks for the info, will look into it.

I actually chose to spend my money a bit differently and try use a passthrough that has no audio editing on the sound signature (removing the mixamp) instead I've bought a full on mixer so I can plug an XLR mic into it and feed my audio out of it and have instant feedback from the mic, IT SHOULD work in theory but might mean MOAR CABLESS!!11!!11!!1.

This it the mixer I ordered

Only thing I'm worried about is when I feed my PC sound into the mixer it will feed the PC sound back on the mic output but what I want to do is run the mic back through ONLY not the game sound/audio sound but using a mixer like this should eliminate the audio delay and not have ASTRO fiddling with the sound signature. Probably a better mic too, not sure though, thoughts??

I will switch headphones but not till these ones die out. I've always thought of the DT770 but never tried them, how is the clamping force on them?

well, the male part of the 3.5mm plug is solid with no moving parts. honestly the only way to have issues would be wear and you would need to pull it in and out a stupid amount of times (more than the life expectancy of the headphones probably) to do that i would think. thats the only reason why its probably not the plug. now, its possible for the cable itself to have a break but the m50 cable is really thick so it would have had to have been abused to cause that. you could still replace the cable if needed though or make your own removable cable jack with a little bit of mod work.

iirc the "premium" dt models have a bit less clamp than the "pro" but the pro are cheaper and a better buy. regardless, you can stretch them if you find the clamp a bit heavy. i would say they have a bit of clamp but nothing excessive like some cans. most people find them comfortable due to the large pads.

i own an m50 myself, not dt770 so cant give you any long term opinions on the dt. the one nice thing about the m50 is that they fold up in a bag which was nice when i took them to work.

Yeah I think imma stick with the M50's for a month or 2 then try something like the DT770's or 990's but I'll look further into it when the time comes and honestly I've head LOADS of headphones and the M50's are as good as far as I want to say I prefer them to the SennHD700's I used to have but the best headphones I have worn were the Final Hope PandoraVI which have 2 drivers in each ear and sound A-MAZING but are costly.

What I've done is order that mixer in hope that I can eliminate the ASTRO effect the Mixamp is having on it and have a higher fidelity sound come from the sound card at raw.

I also got an MXL 770 mic with a shock mount/suspension arm for that better mic quality. Running this into the mixer will therefore mean i can hear myself as well which is something I was looking for. I THINK for now this should work but if it doesn't Amazon's customer support will refund it ezpz!

I don't think I'd trust myself with cable modwork, honestly I can barely hoover my house so maybe I'll grab the X's when my M50's die, I have had the M50's since they like first came out and I used them non-stop for quite a while. It's only recently I've started loving them again.
