There are very very few crimes in English law that have a minimum sentence
beyond a 'conditional discharge', and the judiciary are always complaining
about them, they just had another moan about the compulsory life sentence
for murder.

In this particular case, what about someone who buys a house that contains
some ammunition which is found, for example, by the police when searching
for drugs.

English law admits that the search is valid, unlike the USA, possession of
ammunition or explosives without a licence is an absolute offence and
ignorance, of the law or the facts, is no defence.

However the judge may decide not to give any punitive sentence.

Either there is minimum sentence, or there isn't.

The question of how valid or moral such laws are is neved raised, though, is it ?

Arguing the validity of English law is a futile activity. The parliament is
the supreme authority, that's it, no arguments, end of story...

On which laws do you wish to address the issue of morality?

I thought you didn't need a licence to posess shotgun ammunition, just to
buy it?.

Pretty much all of them. Sod parliament- that's an appeal to force and popularity.

Was it shotgun ammunition? The newspaper reports I've read didn't
specify. Nor did they specify how much ammunition it was. If only a few
rounds, then perhaps that's why he wasn't done for it, the court feeling
that in the context of what they presumably felt was the more serious
offence regarding the brothel it wasn't worth bothering with.

Ok, get your guns and off into the hills you go, complete with any bonkers
Muslim clerics you can find, and start your revolution...

Not quite, it's your beloved parliament whose actions are
illegitimate, so it's off into the hills THEY go. They would fit right
in with the islamo-fascists (and all of the other loonies who think
that a threats of violence or imprisonment constitute a rational
argument).

So that's if for the rule of law and an elected representative body.

Back under your bridge troll.

Don't tempt fate. The status quo isn't half as popular as you seem to think it is.

In this particular case I'm prepared to take the risk.

Get your guns, start shooting, see who follows, see how long you last...

For god sake Will’s you have to be the most arrogant poster I have ever
had the misfortune to read. Have you got some mental block over the fact
that just because a person owns a gun they are NOT going to start a
revolution? The reason I ask is that you have posted this twaddle more
than once now.
I’ll make it clear, in general people who own legal guns are law abiding
and god fearing folk who are the least likely to go and do what you keep
asking, in short your posts are completely off topic and have no bearing
what-so-ever on game shooting. So dump your hippy clad and say sorry.

Where did I give that impression?

The people posting are saying a revolution is just around the corner, I say
it isn't

Read the headers, it's being posted in more than just one newsgroup, you
post in a politics group and, this being the nature of Usenet, you get
politics

I've no idea where you're coming from, but I've owned guns for over thirty
years now and have shot just about everything from .22 short up to serious
cannons for fun.

I've been an instructor since about 1976 and have taught more people to
shoot than I can remember.

So wind your neck in, you just made a fool of yourself.

Kindly supply the details of *any* post where I have said that “a

Suddenly all becomes clear.

You are of course the only one.

I hope you didn’t tell them to take to the hills and start shooting.

A few posts back you unjustly called me little, now your suggesting I have
a long neck. Make your mind up.

>you just made a fool of yourself.

Your right and I’m sorry to say that I’m doing it again but it will not
happen another time.

Like who ? I'm certainly not. The people in this country are too obese
and thick. Who's ever heard of a revolution of fatties ?
