Juve for the title now? they have been a bit off since the new year but
still manage to pick up the points in games despite not playing that well.
Milan are struggling a bit, seems like all the games could be catching up
with them, and it has seemed really apparent that often when Pirlo doesn't
perform Milan also don't. I question Ancelotti in playing Tommasson as
well, Inzaghi looked sharp coming on against juve why not give him a start
seeing as he is (at long last) fit?

Key game for Ancelotti in the next round and it doesn't even involve Milan,
and ironically sees two of his old clubs Juve and Parma in a game that is
vital for both ends of the table. I think Zlatan is back for this game
(Wierdo?) and Gilardino is banging them in still so it should be good
stuff.

The Relegation battle looks very interesting. Roma just 4 points from the
drop zone and the derby against much improved Lazio to come on Sunday,
should be very interesting. A look at games to come sees Roma playing
Chievo, Parma up against Siena, Siena hosting Chievo, Atalanta away to
Fiorentina and at home to Roma and Siena hosting Atalanta. Has there ever
been so many 6 pointers at this stage of the season, not only in Serie A,
but any league??

Last CL place showdown possible in the next round with Samp and Udinese.
Not sure how the draw would work out, but I wouldn't give Everton much
chance against either of them tbh.

Boring, boring Serie A! Two weeks in a row there has been a goalfest, both
involving Livorno conceding 6 and pushing Lucarelli into the top scorers
ahead of some of the heavyweights. Does anyone have any stats on how
leagues compare on goals scored?

Livorno play Inter at the weekend as well! Another goalfest?

Why not? Everton are a well organised side.

6-6 probably

Yeah, he missed the Lazio, Bologna and AC Milan games. It was also nice to
see Del Piero put in a performance for a change this season.

I just think overall that they are better sides, Sampdoria especially.
Flachi seems to be playing much better without Bazzani for some reason.

Any chance of Livorno lying down for Juve?

He's had some nice moments. Can't remember what game it was a few weeks
back where he played pretty well.

Could anyone have imagined how vital Ibrahimovic would have been at the
start of the season?

Yes, knowing that Trezeguet is mediocre most of the times.

I've just been disappointed with his performances overall this season.
There's been a few sparks of brilliance, but I expect him to be doing that
more than half a dozen games a year.

I thought he was an excellent buy at the time, but I didn't think he would
be quite so important. Then again, he's had to carry Del Piero all season,
and make up for Trezeguet being injured constantly. I'll bet they were
regretting letting Miccoli go on loan to Fiorentina for the season.

I guess. What are Livorno getting from the Mutu deal? Players on loan

Do you subscribe to the theory of he's not what he's used to be?

I think Capello is even surprised at how well he has done, I remember him
saying that he was the most interesting player available when he signed,
both technically and due to his young age but I'm sure he didn't expect him
to carry the team up front.

Miccoli doesn't even want to go back does he? They certainly made
themselves lightweight up front last summer. This could be corrected this
summer with Cassano.

I said before the CL season "This year, my team (liverpool) won`t even
get out of the first group stages..too many new players in strategic
postistions".... If liverpool could do it, so could everton. Modern
football makes teams more "equal", since they are all well trained and
organized. Sure, some players are better than others, but a good team is
always better than 11 individually good players...like liverpool has
proven this season in the cl..and you get far with a little luck as
well. Important factor to any sucessful side.

GOOD LUCK NEXT YEAR, EVERTON!!

They're allegedly getting a young player called David Chiumiento, who is
currently on loan at Sienna. As far as I know, this is a permanent deal.

Absolutely. I don't think he's been the same since he came back from that
serious knee injury.

Just as long as they don't expect him to do it on a regular basis.

> Miccoli doesn't even want to go back does he?

Apparently not. And he's made it even harder for a return by claiming the
Juventus defeat by Liverpool was "all he could have hoped for".

> They certainly made themselves lightweight up front last summer.

I'm not even sure why they let Di Vaio and Miccoli go.

> This could be corrected this summer with Cassano.

Cassano is another enigma. Can you imagine him up front with Ibrahimovic?
They'll either devastate every defence in Serie A, or make Juventus play
with nine men. And with Mutu available to play, they should have sorted out
that particular area. Now all they have to do is convince Edgar Davids to
return, and play centre midfield with Emerson.

The fact that he is still held on a pedestall is probably the only reason
why he is still there. I came up with a far fetched transfer theory of
Cassano going to Juve and Del Piero going the other way..

The bar has been raised quite alot. He's likely to only get better and
better.

I recall Maresca saying something similar (not about the Liverpool game in
particular) that wouldn't have helped his chances of going back. Talking
of Miccoli, it would be interesting to see if he would go through with his
promise of retiring if Fiorentina get relegated.

Edu to fill that role maybe? I would have thought more quality cover is
needed for Nedved as well. Taddei to help with that?

Thanks for that Mark. According to Soccerbase,
http://www.soccerbase.com/players_details.sd?playerid=14386, he's only on
loan. He's another player that could help out in the Nedved position, but
it's more likely he'll be sent off permanently to River Plate next season.

I was absolutely delighted with the results. Milan must have lost heart,

Consumer group accuses Rome clubs over derby draw

MILAN, May 16 (Reuters) - Italy's main consumer's association has
called for fans to get their money back and the stock market to take
action after Sunday's goalless Rome derby between AS Roma and Lazio
led to allegations the teams had arranged the result.

The game ended amid whistles and jeers from both sets of supporters
and the consumer association Codacons said it had received calls from
fans looking to get their ticket money back.

Lazio forward Paolo Di Canio and Roma coach Bruno Conti both appeared
on Italian television on Sunday denying any agreement had been reached
for the draw.

Roma and Lazio have struggled this season and with two games to go
neither side is yet safe from relegation, although the point each got
on Sunday could eventually turn out to be vital.

In a statement Codacons said legal action aimed at retrieving ticket
money could be taken out with the Justice of the Peace in Rome.

Codacons, who described the match as "strange" also said they were
asking the stock market regulator Consob, to "intervene".

"We do that because you can read in the newspapers today concerns over
a possible agreement between the two teams to end the match in a draw.

"This is a situation, which if verified, would falsify the value of
the shares in Roma and Lazio through faked results," said Codacons
president Carlo Rienzi.

'DERBY OF SHAME'

Italian media slammed the performance of both sides with Rome's main
newspaper Il Messaggero branding the match "the derby of shame".

"Never again" its headline said.

"Roma-Lazio will go down as the most ugly game of the century and a
rip-off for the 66,323 spectators in the Olympic Stadium who did not
know whether to laugh or cry, whether to get angry or feel ashamed,"
the paper wrote.

"Since Roma and Lazio came into being nothing like this has ever
happened and we will remember the names of these gentlemen forever,"
it added.

The Rome-based sports paper Corriere dello Sport's front page headline
was: "A Disgrace!"

"It was the worst derby in history. A squalid 0-0. 70,000 spectators
betrayed".

Reports said fans had chanted "You've all agreed it" and "Clowns" at
the players during a second half which yielded little excitement.

LITTLE HELP

The result did little to help either team on Sunday though as none of
the bottom four teams in Serie A lost.

The point gained left Roma just three points away from the relegation
zone with two games remaining and Lazio have just one point more.

The relegation situation in Serie A this season is very unusual with
13 teams still mathematically fighting the drop with two matches
remaining.

Just five points separate 18th placed Fiorentina from eighth placed
Cagliari.

The bottom three are currently made up of Atalanta on 35 points and
Fiorentina and Brescia on 38.

Roma, who have been in the top flight for every season since 1952,
face two head-to-head clashes with relegation rivals in the final
games.

First they must travel to face Atalanta before a home game against
17th placed Chievo Verona.

Lazio, in 10th place, have 42 points but also have a tough finale to
the campaign -- at home to Dino Zoff's Fiorentina and then away to
Palermo who are battling for a UEFA Cup place.

It would have been stupid if there was any sort of "agreement" as the draw
didn't do either any favours, Lazio slightly better off, but they could
still go down if the other teams get some good results.

You have to laugh though, the idea of getting their money back is slim to
none to say the least.

As I said before, this relegation battle is as interesting, or even more
interesting, than the one we had in the Premiership.

Two rounds to go, 13 teams in danger of relegation, it's more than
interesting. And hopefully this will mean a more fair battle, not like
previous seasons when the bottom 5 would all win on the last day
against top teams.

I think the fact that alot of them are playing each other will make it alot
more fair. It's a shame that none of the relegation battle games will be
shown on telly over here.
