Total BS... more power for less wattage? If that were possible, we would not need those cooling solutions for our GPUs, let alone that needed for CPUs. Unless they got hold on some alien technology (yeah, right!...) it will not happen.

[citation][nom]Tomtompiper[/nom]First there was ARM, now we have PowerVR, The British are coming, the British are coming![/citation]

better than the Chinese
lol

oh wait, the chinese is already here...

Sadly all i see is something for internet explorer

[citation][nom]f-14[/nom]considering it's a british company making these claims, mind you the brits haven't even mastered electrics yet(look at their automobile history for a prime example)[/citation]

The same could be said for the suspension of various American muscle cars. Hey, I'm only carrying on with the sweeping generalisations; seems to be the rage right about now. *waits for the teeth reference* *avoids any remarks about American chips being fatter* 😛

Imagination Technologies haven't ever been bought out as far as I can see. Sure, Intel and Apple both own stakes in them, but not controlling stakes. Considering they've spent the last few years on low-power designs which culmunated in the SGX that made its way into millions of smartphones, I find it odd that people have suddenly just realised who they are.

Just to put things in perspective, TBDR combined with hardware T&L was thought to be impossible. ImgTec proved everyone wrong with the 2x PowerVR2 + Elan setup on Naomi 2 arcade boards. Had they actually released the Kyro 3, it would've been a very compelling product for the 2002-2003 timeframe.

The 1mW claim is a joke, however it's not in quotes... some clarification please, Jane!

[Edit - rumours aplenty about the PowerVR6 being the PlayStation 4's GPU... and not in 3 years either - next year. The rumours have died down a bit over the past year, though.]

I hate marketing talk that speaks of a category and doesn't give specs. Desktop graphics includes junk like the GMA 3100 (and if they can't match that by 2014, they're completely incompetent).

At least when NVidia said a 2.5 GHz quad core Kal-El could match a C2D they gave a model number (T7200, a 2 GHz mobile one). They never said what discipline (presumably a highly threaded benchmark that's well optimized for ARM).

Nvidia can crush in a single blow given their expertise. Imagination will never be anywhere near nvidia nor AMD.

But as materials science continues to evolve and more efficient and effective cooling materials are engineered, we could, in theory have desktop GPU's in our pockets.

But in the world of technology, one element also depends on another i.e. the domino effect.

the Series6 PowerVR series, codenamed Rogue, that it claims could rival the processing power of desktop GPUs in three years time.

Considering how the pace of technology progresses, that's not saying a whole lot. Desktop graphics in 3 years will be far more advanced than today.

If they somehow think they can get super high end graphics on cellphones better than desktop is in three years, that is a BIG "I'll believe it when I see it". Considering the power and heat issues today, I think they're full of bull.

100x the power is not 100x the speed.
It may require a milliwatt, but that's at standby.
100x the power could mean compared to a corei7 95W, in other words, a 1watt device.

Cool with over 790mil. mobile phones in China and close to 9billion mobile phone active at this very second on planet earth this is a great improvement.

Wow fuck people and their speculative bullshit.
The Imagination Technologies PowerVR Series 6 GPU, which won't be out for another 3 years or so. It's meant to be 20x the power of Mali-400 MP; these are all netbook/phone/mobile GPUs btw. And supposed to rival those of desktop GPUs.
Since specs on the IT aren't released I did math on the Mali.
They boast 1-4 cores (you choose how many), and a range of 275Mpix-1.1Gpix/s @ 275MHz.
So the IT will run 1-80 cores, with a range of 5500Mpix-22Gpix/s @ i'm assuming still 275MHz - ish.
An Nvidia branded 570 GTX has 480 cores and runs at a constant 43.9Billion pix/s (40.89Gpix/s) @ 1464MHz.

So this is meant to dethrone desktop GPUs in 3 years time? Yea sure if we all burn our PCs and go out and buy 16-bit voodoo cards.

[citation][nom]f-14[/nom]considering it's a british company making these claims, mind you the brits haven't even mastered electrics yet(look at their automobile history for a prime example);i highly doubt these are anything more then a die shrink of old 2000 graphics chips or the like.while i remain skeptical, it would not deny that the possibility doesn't exist if perhaps they discovered some other material with better conductivity & heat dissipation.[/citation]

Just looking at your name there, that's a fighter jet right? I fing it very strange that for a country that hasn't "even mastered electrics yet" seems to be providing the electronics to keep most of your modern fighter jets in the sky! Just look up BAE systems. ARM seem to be doing ok in the electronics front too. As for the motor industry, i really have no idea how you dare comment on british cars, as not many cars designed in America will make it to Europe. So please in future, don't disrespect other countries that you clearly have no idea about and stick to the topic at hand!
