Hello, my specs are as follows.
Seasonic 600w Semi-Modular PSU
Intel i7 4770k CPU
ASUS GTX 770 GPU
Asus Maximus VII Impact Mini ITX Mobo
Intel 840 Evo 120GB SSD
WD Blue 1tb HDD
Corsair H100i Liquid Cooler
16gb (8x2) Kingston HyperX Black RAM
I just recently bought a new WD blue 1TB HDD. I put Windows 8.1 64-bit on it when I first got it, and use it as my primary OS. After about two weeks, it became extremely slow very quickly, and I'm suspecting the PSU.
I've had many issues with it. When i boot, it's often a gamble of whether or not the computer will recognize the hard drive as having a bootable partition or even detecting the hard drive at all. I often have better luck with the hard drive booting if i switch the SATA power cable connected to the HDD. This is why I suspect the PSU.
If i do manage to boot, it is another gamble of whether or not it will be incredibly slow (about 5 minutes to open an application or act within an application) or it will work just fine. If it is not working well, Windows Explorer will constantly crash and restart. I've noticed in the few seconds that i am able to access the Task Manager that the hard drive hits 100% when using about 0.4 or more MB total transfer rate, and does not go past this.
I've had this Seasonic 600w for several months now, and have had small occasional issues with it.. but I have also not used a HDD for a few months. I am suspecting that the WD Blue hard drive is not getting enough power. If i am even able to access the operating system at full speed, It will eventually go back to the crawling speed that it often boots to. At this point I have to reset the computer and go back into the gamble of whether or not it will boot correctly.
This is a very frustrating issue, and I just need to pinpoint the issue so I can know what I should replace first, if at all.
I have tried disk checking, and the check gets stuck at 11% for up to 24 hours at a time before I give up and just try to boot again because I need to use the computer for work or something. I have also tried going through the software bit-by-bit to see if anything may be causing the issue. Even going barebones Windows leads to the same problems. I have also hopped onto my Ubuntu on the SSD and checking every single piece of hardware to see if anything has become faulty. Everything checks out fine.
I have also noticed that the PSU voltage can vary, but not to a dangerous level or anything that would affect my hardware. (Nothing more than .05v on any rail) But i felt that I should mention this.
Thank you for reading my wall of informational text, and if you have any input or advice, please let me know. Thank you very much, and I hope we can figure this out!
