Hi

I have this weird problem that I cannot update Spyware Doctor. I have XP firewall desactivaed since I use NVIDIAs firewall ActiveArmor or whatever. I dont think thats whats causing not to update because everything ( i mean everything) else works and updates fine (my other programs and games) and Im also under router.

Now, I when I update it I get ERROR, could not connect, please try later. However, I installed Spyware doctor on my friends pc and it updated fine.

My antivirus is NOD32 and I also have Spybot S&D and Ad-aware.

What do you guys think is causing this problem? Why cant I update my spyware doctor?

It might be the router's fault. Anways, you shouldn't have more than one antivirus on your computer. Some of the antivirus will have problems when it detects another antivirus on the same system.

Woah, déjà vu. Haven't I seen this thread before, somewhere else...? 8O

You could try an uninstall and reinstall of the offending program itself. I actually had the same problem with Nod32, believe it or not. I installed it (my 30 days ran out, rofl  ), and whenever I'd go to update, it was like, "Nah, you don't need to update. You've got the newest definitions." I had definition 1800 or so. What are we up to now? 2200 something? Yeah. I was scared. I freaked and kept mashing the button and tried a restart and then everything worked...

But, yeah. Long, pointless story aside, you could try a reinstall and see if that helps :D

try super anti spyware, it is a pretty darn decent anti spyware program, no joke, no sarcasm, also, try get a firewall that is known to be a solid one like the zone alarm one or the computer associates rip off of it.

Click start -> run ->type msconfig -> enter -> startup tab. Uncheck all programs that appear to be connected with the Active Armor, you may need to look at the path to be sure. Make note of changes.

Then

Click start -> run ->type services.msc -> enter. Look for services that might be related to Active Armor. Double click service click on stop and change drop down to disable. Make note of changes.

Reboot and try to update. If you can update Active Armor is the culprit. Go into the Active Armor and enable Spyware Doctor updater. If you cannot update and have the key/disk etc. try uninstalling Active Armor and try again. More than likely it is your Active Armor causing the problem.

You think everybody who gets virus from porn sites?
My friend got my computer infected with virus by downloading keygen for a old game. Nobody has time to look at porn sites anymore especially if they're working and studying in university.

i thought people had gotten past searching the web for porn and that we all know that a well seeded movie from bittorrent is always the best, fastest and cleanest way of getting the stuff... (open source)movies not porn *wink*

I had some problems with Nvidia's ActiveArmor firewall and I disabled it quickly. It was blocking stuff that I wanted and I hate that type of thing. Try disabling the ActiveArmor and then try downloading the updates. If that doesn't work, you could try uninstalling and reinstalling the program as some have suggested. Beyond that, I'm not sure what the problem is.

Thanks for everybodys answer

First of all and I would like to shout this OUT LOUD

I AM NOT INFECTED NOR WITH ANY KIND OF VIRUS OR SPYWARE! I JUST WANT TO HAVE THE UPDATED DEFINITIONS SINCE SPYWARE DOCTOR PROVED TO FIND SOME STUFF SP S&S AND AD-AWARE COULDNT FIND.

Now I didnt get infected surfing pr0n or keygens, but is weird that Spybot S&D found couple of tracking cookies so I wanted to make sure I was clean and hopefully spyware doctor didnt find anything, but it has the definitions that come with ver 5.0

Can ActiveArmor be blocking this? I mean, everything (even eMule) is working for me (after unblocking ports on router), I didnt have to do anything on ActiveArmor, even uTorrent is opened (agian with router configured) so I dont think is ActiveArmor, anyways, is there any actually program called activearmor that you can open and see whats blocking etc? Because when I say I have activearmor actived, I mean that I have in nTune TCP/IP Acceleration activated (and as you guys know, you need to have XP firewall desactivated because this activates active armor)

I have also tried plugging in the modem itself with no router but it didnt help.

Im gonna try to start in Safe mode with networking enabled since ntune and everything is desactivated.

Will come back with results.

Which one would you choose? I would choose neither because summer school's too busy and i don't even have time to do anything. Covering the whole year's work in less than 5 weeks is a tough job and you can't watch porn nor search for keygen while you study.

Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling spyware doctor? Sometimes, a fresh install solves everything. It's faster and better than trying to figure out what the problem is.

Is spyware doctor really an important tool that you need to spend a lot of time one? You should really be studying your Algebra II Honors right now and get a good mark on it. As long as you don't visit porn sites or search for keygens, you won't get many virus and spywares.

well, it always finds stuff that ad-aware and spybot S&D dont find thats why I like it.

On the other side, I feel like my pc is a little bit slower but as long as im protected...

Hey everybody

I have another problem. Now I want Spyware doctor NOT to start at startup. I found many sites saying disable startup option but in Spyware 5 there is no such option.

How do I disable it from starting at startup? I want to disable it in the program, not from msconfig so I wont cause problems.... or is it the only way?

.
You have a wife, just watch your wife> LOL.. JK

Do this all in safe mode.

Click start-> search

Find and delete all the shortcuts of spyware doctor inside startup folder, or anywhere in the computer beside the install directory.

Then click start-> run -> regedit

Inside the registry editor... you'll need to find Spyware doctor's startup stuff. I forgot exactly where everthing is because it has been a lot time since i did these kind of stuff. I believe it's in Hkey_user or something. Maybe some fellow posters in this forum can help you on the registry part.
