HI

I have a HP I5 Probook with I5 8GB laptop and HP I7 ENvy 4700 MQ with 16 gigs.

Have a program that generates text files for dummy data. I5 will take 2 days to generate a 65 gb CSV file where as I7 will generate around 15 gigs in 2 days.

Both have SSD drives. I5 is on windows 7 where as I7 is a WIndows 10. Not sure what is that makes I7 so slow.

If you could give me some thoughts.

I also have another Toshiba I7 that has similar stats. I74500HQ 16 gigs, SSD but results are same as of the other I7. Just not sure why would these machines not being able to process half the capacity of I5.

Hello turkey3_scratch,

Thanks for asking. Good suggestion. I checked the two systems for RAM Speed and they both seems to be DDR3-1600 SoDIMM. Was there anything else that I can check?

Its a Visual studio program, with no restriction to limit RAM usage. Same program and version on both machines except different OS. If I use Win8.1 instead of Win10 on I7s they perform the same.

Have a great day.

Windows Defender was killing system performance. I7 is now taking 2 seconds to write 1 meg of CSV file that earlier took 10 seconds. CPU is still less then 50%. Disk usage is around 3%.

I5 takes 3 second for a meg.
