Server connection problem - help please!

Archived from groups: alt.games.half-life.counterstrike (More info?)

I can download a large list of servers, which I can refresh etc. so they
seem to be active. However, I cannot connect to most of them. I have
saved 6 or 7 to my favourites, not because they are particularly good,
just because I can connect to them.

Why am I having problems connecting to servers?

What type of internet connection do you have? Do you have a router and/or
firewall? Do you have problems connecting to other games , or only
Counterstrike?

I have a DSL connection. I also have a firewall (Symantec)

However, I can connect quite happily with 6 or 7 sites for CS, but for
some reason the connection can't be made with most others.

I only play CS on-line.

I too thought about a firewall problem ,but as I can connect to some, I
didn't think this was the cause.

Any ideas?

Steam - unfortunately.

I tried to play without it but my games wouldn't work unless Steam
loaded first.
