Server memory on desktop system not working when it should

I have multiple desktop boards across 1151, AM1 and AM3+ which support either DDR3 ECC or DDR3 ECC modules run in Non ECC. I recently got my hands on CT16G3ERVDD4186D but none of my boards can post with it even though they are compatible with 16gb modules. Is there a way I can test If it works after all. Is there a more affordable platform that I can put them than the PowerEdge R710 by Dell which is one of the few supported in Crucial's website. I have no receipt for the module. Can I send it directly to Crucial to change it for something I can use?

It is quite likely that 16GB per slot is more than your motherboards support. They may have a 32GB (8GB/slot) limit. Check the manufacturer's websites for specific limitations.

1151 supports 16GB sticks - doubt if the AM1 or AM3+ mobos do. 16GB DDR3 ECC is aimed at the likes of an Xeon

As I said the boards I tested clearly state that they support 16GB modules per slot.

If they claim to might check with the manufacturer, which 1151 mobo?

Shows as support 1Rx8 or 2Rx8 the crucial are in an x4 config - might check with GB to be sure

No support for 16gb Rdimm ddr3 modules on any mainstream desktop motherboard.
