Use:I am building a headless ubuntu serer. It will be mainly used for hosting a minecraft server from home, of about 20-30 people. A secondary purpose will be hosting a samba server. It will be on 24/7, so I would like to use a little power as possible.

Budget: ~$700

Case: Antec ISK 310-150

Motherboard: Intel BOXDH77DF Intel 7 Series Motherboard

CPU:Intel Xeon E3-1220 V2 Ivy Bridge

Internal Drives (SSD & HDD):

Corsair Neutron Series CSSD-N120GB3-BK 120GB
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3950373&sku=C13-8500

WD Black 500 GB

RAM: Kingston HyperX Blu 16 GB (2x8)

The total of this comes out to about 700 dollars before tax. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Solution
Understood. Just keep in mind that adding more users will add more congestion. The load on the machine you intend to build should not be an issue at all.

Have fun!

I was thinking of going with an AMD CPU, it seems to be faster for the same price:

AMD A10-5800K Trinity 3.8GHz
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113280

and the mobo to match:
ASRock FM2A75M-ITX FM2 AMD A75 (Hudson D3) HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX AMD Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157340

and also this case, because it has a better psu, and a larger fan.

SilverStone Sugo Series SG05B

I'll drop the SSD, I had it because i had read that it sped up some aspects of a minecraft server.

EDIT:
I can't seem to find a motherboard that has 4 slots for RAM. Does one exist for the AMD cpu?

16GB will be okay. Agreed, I don't see any 4-slot mini-ITX AMD-based mobos out there. While a SSD will help with performance, I don't see where it would make that huge a difference with a game server.

What will affect the server is your network connection. Are you using DSL or a cable modem for your ISP connection? Also, will this server be on a dedicated IP address or a DMZ off of your home router?

As of now, it will be off of my home router, with AT&T DSL. My internet is pretty fast, I've had about 10 people on a laptop I installed linux on with no problem, aside from the computer itself overheating.
