Server Running Slow

I recently received what I would describe as a relatively powerful server. I installed Ubuntu and was going to start installing other things, however it ran extremely slow, I mean like early 2000's computer running windows 10 slow. I made sure all the hard drives were formatted as well.
Here are the specs:
- 11 GB of DDR3 RAM
- 2 x Intel Xeon E5620 2.4GHz
- Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe
- 1 tb HDD

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would also like to say that I am relatively new to things like this so I apologize if I have worded things incorrectly.
