My rig uses a Supermicro x8sax mobo that has 2 ethernet ports. One of the ports is connected to my router in another room by a 50' cat5 for internet.

What I want to know how to do (if possible) is use 2nd ethernet port as outgoing that I could run a cable from it to my Samsung Blu-ray player in order to access netflix using the player because it is a model w/o wireless.

Is it possible to use 2nd ethernet port as an outbound for internet that the computer is receiving through the other port?

Solution
Nice answer but non answer from SS202SL... Yes, you can use your computer's second network card for this.

Your set top device might function immediately after setting up Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) and connecting Ethernet, but firewall rules may also need to be added. When you get ICS setup, if you have problems with getting your set top online post back here and I will try to walk you through it.

Open Network Connections by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, clicking Network and Sharing Center, and then clicking Manage network connections...

Right-click the connection that you want to share, and then click Properties. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Click the Sharing tab, and then select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection check box.

"ICS provides Internet access for a home or small office network by using one common connection as the Internet gateway. In an ICS network, a single computer is chosen to be the ICS host. The ICS host has at least two network adapters: one connected to the Internet, one or more connected to the private network......"

Is that the only way because my network setup flow is:

1. Internet
2. Cable jack
3. All-in-One Cable modem/router (Bright House)
4. Rig connected to All-in-One

Can I just set my 2nd port to "Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection" and it work?

The answer is Yes.

All of these other options are viable, but the most simple is to just run a $1 ethernet cable to your blu-ray player from your second network card, like you had originally asked and turn on ICS.

If you want to throw hardware at it, personally I would go with wifi so you can ditch the 50' cable.

Dale, does this work if I am not using the computer between a mode and a router? I only ask because Bright House gave me an all-in-one device, so I don't have separate modem and router. If my computer is hooked to all-in-one like other computers, can i still do this?

I was just looking for a way to avoid running another 50ft cable from the router to my bluray and did not want to spend $50 on a set of LAN Over Power adapters if I could help it

As long as your computer is turned on, has two ethernet ports and one of those ports gets internet, then yes it will work. :)

It only takes 30 seconds to try out, If you have any problems/questions just ask in this thread and I will get back to you.
