Set Up a network for a printer is not working

I want to put a password on my printer so my roommate does not use the ink, so i was just gonna make a new network then put a password on it and connect the printer to that but its not working because when i go to Network and Sharing Center and click "Set up a new connection or network>Set up a new network" my router is not on the list. I tried using an Ethernet connection, a wireless connection, restarting my router and idk what to do

I suggest setting up a new HomeGroup.

if you have an inkjet printer and are paying a lot for ink. look online for staples or other sales on small home black and white laser printers. I picked up a samsung one for 40.00 from staples last year. you get 2000 pages from most of these small printers. a lot of them now like mine you can buy cheap oem tonner from amazon. then you can use the inkjet for color printing.
