[SOLVED] Set up SBG6580-2 as an access point

I have a main router in room A, and a wired connection that goes from room A to room B. Since the wireless signal strength in room B is weak, I wanted to use my spare SBG6580-2 router as an access point in room B. However, I am not finding any instructions on how to do this. I found instructions for other routers (such as for tp-link), but their interface is very different, and I'm not able to mimic them for my router.

Any help would be appreciated

You likely need to put a static IP on your pc temporarily. With the DHCP server disabled when the router reboots your pc likely no longer has a IP address.

What might work is to change the IP first leaving the DHCP enable. Save that then go in a second time and disable the DHCP. The router should not reboot just turning off the DHCP so your pc should keep the IP. After you connect the 2 routers your pc will get a IP from the main router and you can get to the AP using its new IP.
Part of your problem is that your device has a cable modem in it.

I have not watched that video but there are a massive number of idiots who know nothing about what they are talking about. They only want to be famous or make money but are not actual qualified to make the content they do.

The process is actually very simple and works on pretty much any router including ones that do not have a wan port so it is strange it is not included in that video.

The steps are.

Disable the DHCP server function.
Change the lan IP to not conflict with your primary router. If you main router uses 192.168.1.1 set the "ap" to something like 192.168.1.250. A better answer is to set it outside the range used by DHCP on the main router but a high number generally always works.
Plug a cable between the 2 devices using LAN port.

.............actually pretty trivial

That did and did not work. My main router has an IP of 192.168.1.1. The SBG6580-2 won't let me assign a LAN IP address of 192.168.1.2 because the starting and ending local addresses are 192.168.0.x and I cannot change the 0 part (see screenshot above). So I let the LAN IP stay at 192.168.0.1, and unchecked the 'enable dhcp server'. Now when I connect it to my main router, it does work as an access point - I can connect to the SBG6580-2 wireless network. Except there is no way to login to the SBG6580-2. I tried 192.168.0.1 which didn't work. I also looked into my main router's attached devices and tried visiting all of their IPs, but none of them correspond to the SBG6580-2. This is very weird but at least the access point works. Let me know if you understand what is going on.

It is very strange that you can not change the subnet. There likely is some trick to it.

Although it is very non standard you can make it work using a secondary IP on your PC. You can put a second IP like 192.168.0.100 on your pc and it will use that IP only to get to the AP and use the main IP for everything else.
