Hello, I am trying to setup a dial-up connection between my windows 2000 server and another windows 2000 laptop I have. I have looked on the internet for any instructions about it but I cannot find any specifically for windows 2000 and even instructions for other operating systems are scarce. Both computers are using soft modems and I am wanting to have the laptop access the internet via dial-up to the server which is connected to the internet with Lan.

I have tried ICS and winroute but I haven't gotten it to work with either of these and I am probably doing something wrong. Would anyone know how to set this up? Thanks.

Just for fun and learning - excellent!

Start here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RS-232

Then google "RS-232 short haul modem setup RJ-11" - just as an initial broad swipe.

Then as you read and learn revise and filter the search terms as you deem applicable and appropriate.

Depending on exactly what old hardware you have and/or can obtain you may need adapters, telephone cables, telephone jacks.

And probably a couple of PCI RS-232 cards.

For example only - you can find other similar products...
But why though?!
Dial-up is being used on analog lines with the modem modulating the digital signal into a sound and vice versa.

you can just stick a network card into your laptop if it doesn't have an ethernet jack already and just connect it with your normal router.

Maybe even RS-232 plugs (male and female) that you solder up yourself.
