Im ok with adding additional hardware, and my main monitor will be for games and the secondary one just for a video or something just pretty basic stuff

HDMI does not support independent monitors. You would need to adapt something else to HDMI for the second display.

You can't use a splitter. If you want a second HDMI monitor, you need a second HDMI output. You can use adapters from other video interfaces like DisplayPort or USB-C, if your laptop has a USB-C port with the video out feature. It really depends on what other video ports your laptop has.
