I was wondering if anybody can be so kind enough to point
out some valuable information on setting up a small home
network between a 2 laptops and 3 computers. I need a
link at an easy level that teaches you how to set up a
network.

Also, I was wondering if Windows NT would be a good
choice to start a network? Is Windows NT still flexible
with newer programs and software? Thanks for your help.

Mary,

Setting up your first home network can be a daunting task. There are plenty of companies and consultants out there that make a living doing exactly what you are asking. But if you want to take up the challenge of doing it yourself, there are quite a few websites that give pretty good instructions on setting up a network for the first time. Here are a few links:

http://www.pcworld.com/howto/article/0,aid,102461,00.asp - PC World

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/getstarted/default.mspx - Microsoft

http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dType=guide&dId=178 - TweakTown

http://techrepublic.com.com/5100-6255-1033777.html - TechRepublic

These are just a handful of the HUNDREDS of sites on the web. If these don't suit you, try searching for others.

As far as using NT for your Network Operating System, it will work fine; that's what it was designed for. However, you could have some issues with other applications. Windows 2000 and 2003 are great Server platforms, but if you are just trying to get a number of PC's "talking" to each other, XP will work just fine.

Good Luck!
