I have a 5900X and a 3080 GPU. I am confused about 2 of the settings in the game. It defaulted to ultra high settings but it is set at TAA instead of DLSS. There is also a setting for 60FPS or less or none. I have been getting an average of 90FPS so far in the first hour of play. I use Afterburner with RTSS and have the FPS locked at 160 since my monitor is 165Hz. Should I change either of these settings or leave them alone?

Is there a specific problem demonstrably affecting game play?

And are you saying that the 90 FPS degrades after an hour of game play?

If game play is fine then leave things alone.

Otherwise more information is needed.

= = = =

And remember that you are likely aways free to change any setting - just to experiment and test.

Key is to change only one thing at a time and be ready to undo any change that goes astray.

And, of course, remember to do your backups....

No problems so far. I've only played for an hour so no degradation over time. Just wondering what the FPS setting is. Haven't seen it before. Also wondering why it defaulted to TAA instead of DLSS when DLSS is the newer technology.

There's really not a lot of helpful information when googling these settings. From what I have found so far, TAA is the default setting but DLSS delivers better performance if your GPU is designed to work with it, which the 3080 is. The FPS setting apparently lowers resolution to maintain a preset FPS. Not liking that idea. Probably not an issue since I am getting 90 anyways. I am going to turn this setting off.

As Ralston said, it matters most whether gameplay is smooth and you have no tearing and such. It wouldn't be that hard to just compare TAA to DLSS, but asfaik you are still limited to DLSS 2 on the 3000 series GPUs, in which case it's unlikely it would bring your FPS up high enough to be close to 165.

Keep in mind as well that even if you could manage 160 FPS or even 120, it would probably raise your GPU temps a bit, if that matters to you. High refresh/FPS is helpful in eSports titles, which is mostly what popularized it, but not really useful in AC games.

With DLSS enabled and set to quality I am getting up to 120FPS now. It doesn't really look much different that I can tell. The graphics quality is really good either way. I'll just leave it like this for now. Temps are fine.

As many have said, that is why DLSS is one of the biggest achievements in gaming software. It's by far currently the biggest workhorse when it comes to improving FPS without visual sacrifice. It's also becoming as big if not bigger a reason to own a current Nvidia GPU, RT kind of taking a backseat to it except for those whom can afford elite PC builds. The thing is though, now DLSS, especially DLSS 3, also validates using RT.
