Restart your computer in SAFE MODE by pressing F8
and then try installing that game. It should install fine. 🙂

Hi Brendan,

Use MSCONFIG to startup in Safe Mode:
Click Start / Run / type: msconfig / click OK
In the System Configuration Utility Window
click the Boot.ini tab
Check /Safeboot
Click OK

Restart Windows and Choose Safemode during startup.

Hi Brendan,

Make sure you're using an Administrators account to install the game.

Let's try some basic troubleshooting. If the problem still persists
please post back and we'll try some more steps. Good luck! 🙂

1. Run a virus scan at: http://housecall.antivirus.com Afterwards
Download & Run Spybot from: http://security.kolla.de to find any
Trojans, Adware, or Spyware which could clog up your system.

2. Click My Computer / Rightclick the Drive & Choose Properties
/ Run the "Disk Cleanup..." / Next Click the "Tools" Tab and run
the "Error-Checking" and "Defragmentation" utilities.

jimmy,

thank you for all the help, these or the suggestions the
the Phone help service provided but after the problem
continued they suggested that i buy a new cd. I tried
running disk cleanup many times and i recents used
spybot, is there anything else you can suggest? Once
again thank you so much for any help and all the
suggestions you have given me.

Hi,

Sure, I've been holding back on offering this suggestion
for a couple of posts now, in the hopes that the problem
wasn't as big as it now appears to be. Here's the solution...

Repair Windows:
Unplug from your Internet connection, and then repair Windows:
using this method: http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Afterwards, boot up your system, turn on your XP Internet Firewall,
plug back into your Internet connection and install all Critical and
Recommended updates from: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

i will have to consider this suggestion, however i do
have a question, you have said to re-enable the firewall
before connecting to the internet, but XP firewall is
part of SPK2 which will be uninstalled. do i have to
slipstream a new bootable cd, this seems just too much
trouble, so is there a way to do it without
slipstreaming?

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.games.ageofkings (More info?)

Hi,

No need for slipstreaming at all actually. 🙂

XP firewall has always been available, just not given
the same spotlight it gained with the release of SP 2.
It's in your LAN connection > Properties > Advanced.
