Question Several BSODs with different errors result in BSOD loop ?

Hi everyone,

I switched to an RX 6700 XT two months ago and the last couple of days my screen started freezing but the audio was still fine in the background, all of these resulted in me having to do a hard reset. After looking it up it turned out to be quite common so I tried a couple things, editing some registry files, updating drivers for the 100th time etc. It didn't seem to solve my issues and now the last time it happened after the hard reset I got a BSOD and kinda got into a loop of rebooting and BSODs.

I had a couple error codes I got:
  • Bad_Pool_Caller
  • IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
  • Mode Heap Corruption
It was mostly the Bad Pool Caller one and the other ones only appeared 1 or 2 times each. After every couple of reboots I managed to get to the sign-in screen but after typing in my password the desktop wouldn't load and I would just get another BSOD. I tried reinstalling Windows which apparently failed since I'm typing from the same system with all my files intact. From what I read Bad Pool Caller is caused by faulty drivers but since I couldn't even log in I couldn't mess with my drivers (or maybe I could but I have no idea how) so the only other lead I got was from one of the other errors which MIGHT be caused by faulty RAM so I took a somewhat blind guess and removed 1 pair of my RAM sticks and now I'm here typing this forum post on the very same PC.

All seems good but I'm left here wondering if it really was the RAM causing the BSODs and if my random screen freezes are gone now. If it happens again what's the next thing I could try?

System specs:
OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Home
Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045
Processor AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
B550 AORUS ELITE V2
Kingston FURY 2x8GB KIT DDR4 3200MHz CL16 (the other RAM I removed was a 2x8GB G.SKILL 3200Mhz which was a bit older)
SSD with the OS on it: Crucial P3 Plus 1 TB
Sapphire Radeon RX 6700 XT
Seasonic Focus GX 650W

so I took a somewhat blind guess and removed 1 pair of my RAM sticks and now I'm here typing this forum post on the very same PC.

You're advised to not run two pair of rams, since they can and will cause instability. You should be fine as is. You could test this theory out by running the G.Skill pair of ram alone and see if the issue persists. Use slots A2 and B2 on the motherboard and on that note, make sure you're on the latest BIOS version.
