I'm about to install an SSD for the first time and have some questions.

Are there any programs that should never be installed on an SSD? Like an anti virus, firewall, games, etc.

Has more questions but mind went blank after getting distracted.

Solution
most programs are write once and read as many times as used. anti virus only write small updates when the anti virus definitions are updated daily. firewalls only write to the ssd if the program is updated. as a user you write more to the ssd when you download mp3 and movies and then delete them or move them to the hard drive.
with ssd defraging it and any disk aliment tools should not be run on the ssd. overclocking or firmware changer. anything that might change the voltage going throough the controller and burning it out. for programs anything that would keep writing to the ssd like a backup or cloning program. ssd you can read from the drive all day without issues but they have a set number of writes.

^^ agreed. Even though SSD's these days like the Samsung EVO 850 are rated for like 80GB written a day for 5 years straight before they are suppose to fail though but i wouldn't risk it. Also move your Page file to a HDD if you have one and turn off Hibernation if you don't use it. That will save you a lot of space especially the page file if you have a lot of ram because it is 1-1.5x times the amount of ram so if you have 16GB of ram the pagefile will be at least 16GB. If you don't have a HDD to move it to you can just limit it to like 4GB or so.

Some people say just turn it off but unless you are tech savvy i wouldn't. just make it a small limited number.

Things that SHOULDN"T be saved or installed to a SSD

The only thing I can think of that would shorten the life of the SSD is if you constantly save large files and then delete them on a daily basis.

If you install a game on there the ONLY thing that is almost ever written after the inital install are any updates and saved game files. The updates are installed once then done.

Even with MP3's unless you saved 80GB of MP3's a Day and then deleted them it would still take 5 years for it to kill your SSD. I doubt you will be doing that.

All in all Most people put programs they need to be fast on the SSD and programs that they don't care about on a HDD. I install the game i am playing on my SSD. When I am done, I uninstall it, and install the next.
