Got some interesting info on Shader model 3. Pretty much everything that can be done in 3.0 that ya seen in the Unreal 3 tech demo, can be done in 2.0 aswell, but with cards that support 3.0 its 2-4 times faster.

ATi's x800 is running the unreal 3 techdemo at around 20 fps on 2.0 shaders.

The 6800 is doing the same with 2.0 but when 3.0 are used in the FPS goes up to 40-60, this is from a good source :)

Also tested the same thing with my engine. the frame rates go through the roof! its at least 2 times faster.

Also ultrashadow 2 is much more effecient then ultrashadow 1, I'm able to render 2 shadows per object from two different light sources at the same speed as 1 shadow with ultrashadow

interesting

if this is indeed true, hopefully itll make ATI release the R500 sooner 😀~~

man that would be so awesome..

None of the new cards will play any unreal engine 3 powered games.....

Athlon 2700xp+ (oc: 3200xp+ with 200fsb)
Radeon 9800pro (oc: 410/360
1024mb pc3200 (5-3-3-2)
Asus A7N8X-X

There is a good chance they will be these next gen cards are going to be the low end in a year and half. and thats the target Unreal 3 will be going for. Features wise there isn't going to be anything majorly added to Shaders 3.0 model.

The nice thing about shaders 3.0 some things that were hand done in vertex shaders and pixel shaders are now done just by calling for them.

No more need to optimize cause we have direct access to the hardware through the call. Its alot faster
