Hey yall, I'd like to seek the tounge of anyone more experienced than me,which shouldn't be hard , with a certain matter I'm dealing with now. I live in a backwater town in Poland. For years now my best and honestly only sure choice of internet source was vdsl up to 80 mbit/s from Orange. Recently new option emerged from different, private provider Wawtel offering up to 300 mbit/s via optical fiber for nearly same cash (upgrade I've been waiting for a while for but one that was not possible via my current provider).
I decided to try while still keeping my current net option just in case. Signed contract and awaited scheduled technicians to come and plug me in. They arrived 7th decemnber, dragged the cable, provided router "Halny hm-4gmv3", connected everything and told me to expect activation of service in max couple of days. I got into the router config and changed the default ssid and passes for 2.4g/5g wifis and left it alone. I was out of town over a week for work and came back yesterday night to find it's still not working (LoS diode still blinkin').
I immidately filled a contact form on the provider website asking "what gives?", they did not respond but today I noticed the router is finaly working. I connected my rig via lan cable to see that hooray I am online and double hooray my average dl speed is at 319 mbit/s, however at the same time I noticed that wifi names were changed somehow. They were no longer ones I set, neither router default ones "HALNy-2.4G-8f8360"/"HALNy-5G-8f8360" but instead "WAWTEL-8f8360"/"WAWTEL5G-8f8360", passwords stayed as I set them ... I found that suspicious and annoying to say the least so I tried to get into router config again to change them but now I cannot. Tried via lan and wifi only getting "this site cannot be reached", "err_connection"timed"out".
It's already late today and saturday so I'm going to have to wait till monday to call provider, not gonna settle with contact through form this time but what do yall think? For me this whole thing is quite strange. I'm no networking specialist but if they can remotely access my router and block me from doing it, what else can they do if they want including spying or accesing my devices ...
