I have set up Network Home Group Sharing between Windows 8.1 and a Windows Vista laptop using a wireless router. The problem is the printer which is connected to the Vista pc refuses to print out requests coming from the Windows 8.1 desktop. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It is a real pain trying to figure out this quirky and inconsistent behavior. The printer shows it has received the request because it can be seen in the queue box, on the Vista pc.; nevertheless, there is no action. If it does print up it takes hours to finally spit out the print out. I am using Mozilla Firefox browser on both pc's.
Found solution at Microsoft's website which recommended open up ports on firewall. After disabling most, if not all, the blocked ports in ESET Smart Security's firewall the printer was working again. Cannot understand how or why it reconfigured itself and stopped working in the first place. Happy I found a solution, finally.
