Hello,

In my home I have 1 Windows 7 Desktop, 2 Smartphones and 1 Old samsung phone. The Desktop is connected to a Dlink 2750u Router with a Lan Cable and the other devices are connected through wifi.

My Desktop is connected to internet through a Huawei E1732 Data Card. I want to share this internet connection over the router so that all the devices can access internet.

I don't want to keep my desktop running because I use internet for a short time. But I want my Smartphones be able to access a network drive ie : Seagate 1TB external HDD connected to the router using USB port when the PC is not running. I want to share files between the devices hence disabling DHCP on router & using ICS is not an option.

Also I don't want to use proxy because not all Android apps use proxy settings. Previously, I was using proxy but I experienced this problem.

Please, someone help me with this situation. I want to access internet on all my devices.

Also, the Windows 7 Desktop has a DLNA server.

Thank you in advance.

Solution
Cheapest Windows computer these days (and with minuscule power consumption) these days can be had for under $100. This would be your best options (unless you are ready to find a modem that supports your USB stick).

Another option would be to get $30 Raspberry Pi and make it share the USB internet / host the HDD, but this would be way more difficult, and I did not find any tutorials on that.
I am not sure how you would even think this can work. You have to somehow connect the modem and the hd to something that has power and your router only has 1 USB port and I don't even know if it supports the mobile broadband modem you have.

You likely are going to have to buy a different router that can support both the HD and the USB modem at the same time. TPlink tends to have a very long list of supported modem but it is not as simple as just the hardware. You must verify that your ISP in your country is supported using that particular hardware. Some ISP are real jerks and will not release the information needed so the router manufacture can add support.

Thank you Bill for your quick reply. My router supports this Data card but my ISP i.e.: BSNL is a complete mess. The Dongle drops the connection after a few minutes. Any other solution to this problem will be highly appreciated.

I have a ADSL router which is capable of converting a LAN port into WAN but I have no idea what it means. Can someone elaborate ? And is it helpful regarding this problem ?

Thanks for taking your time and replying to the question. Seems like there is no other option. I'll have to disable DHCP on router.
